I run into this problem every now and again, finally writing down the damn solution. It can be tricky to drop, create, or alter PostgreSQL objects via Python. Not simple row values, but databases, tables, and the like. frankwiles.com/posts/psycopg2…

Best way I can describe the WPDrama in real world terms for the parents: Imagine that Apple accuses Netflix of trademark infringement because they used the apple logo on their site to promote the iOS application. Apple then cuts off Netflix from being able to make any updates in the iOS App Store. Apple says btw there’s a vulnerability in the application but now Netflix cannot update it because they’ve been locked out. Netflix makes a fix and tells as many customers as they can that they should download the update directly from them to fix it. Apple then takes over the Netflix application in iOS, slaps their own logo on it and call it Secflix. They do fix the security issues and an additional security issue they didn’t divulge because they wanted leverage. iOS users then caught in the hostile takeover have no idea that when they do their routine updates, that the Netflix app will change to Secflix. Again, this is all an analogy to what is happening right now in WordPress. How could anyone watching that say any of this is ethical or legal?

… This shows a consistent pattern of diving deep to fully understand the mechanics of systems you work with, suggesting that you’re driven by a genuine desire to master complex challenges, not just solve them. You may not always recognize how much this curiosity sets you apart.”

Exciting news! I have partnered with @GoLandIDE and will be releasing a FREE course where we'll build two Go apps from scratch together - one an API and one a full-stack web app. Along the way we will explore powerful features of the GoLand, a Jetbrains IDE which can help you be productive. This course is for beginners. You do not need to have any Go experience and we'll teach you the Go you need along the way. Have experience with Go but not used GoLand? We'll teach you some tips and tricks to make you more productive. You want to know the best part? If you finish the course, you will receive a ONE YEAR license to Goland COMPLETELY FREE. Join the waitlist here to express interest: bytesizego.com/mastering-go-w… Launching in November!

On the one hand, it’s truly amazing how “solved” the “is it a photo of a bird” problem has become today The key idea from this comic is still so relevant though - thanks to LLMs it’s even harder now for non-developers to guess what’s easy and what isn’t

This XKCD comic was posted exactly 10 years ago today. In those 10 years, we've solved the impossible problem and gone so so far beyond it. We are the future we were waiting for.

Reminder about the importance of getting good at recovering from incidents: 1. You can’t prevent all incidents from occurring. 2. You must recover from all of the incidents that occur.

I recently gave a guided tour of Berlin to 2 Disney adults who compared covid restrictions to those placed upon German Jews in the 1930s (whilst we were standing in the Holocaust Memorial)
