Some main reasons. DMK post Karunanidhi and ADMK post JJ are at their weakest. The Dravidian movement has run its course and needs to go. A new icon was needed, Rajanikant had the chance in 2021 & he blew it with cold feet. Vijay emerges as the new icon & will possibly stay for atleast a decade if not more National parties have very limited traction in TN; BJPs attempts to fill the space wasn’t good enough due to non existence of a big Tamilian name in the party. Filmstars are still revered in Tamil Nadu & Vijay is riding that wave now. Vijay is better connected with the Gen Zee than any other alternative that was put up. Finally DMK was never meant to be a family affair. Even ADMK was never accepted as a family party. None of the supposed heirs managed to connect with the masses like their earlier generations did. The issue is the same for UP, Bihar, Maharashtra etc where similar rejections have been seen in cadre based parties that converted to family based lineage. The day @INCIndia and their alliance partners learn this their fortunes may change.
