Last week, Pennington Biomedical hosted the #NIDDK Clinical Methods for Nutrition and Obesity Research Course—four intensive days with some of the brightest postdoctoral fellows and early career investigators from across North America. Participants from Harvard, Columbia, Vanderbilt, University of Toronto, and 13 other institutions received hands-on training in state-of-the-art methodologies, including body composition assessment, hyperinsulinemic clamp protocols, metabolic chambers, and exercise testing. Training the next generation is core to our mission at Pennington Biomedical. These hands-on methods, from metabolic chambers to clamp studies, require world-class facilities and experienced mentors willing to guide emerging investigators. I'm proud of our faculty for sharing their expertise with this exceptional group of early-career scientists. Thank you to Dr. Leanne Redman (course director), Dr. Eric Ravussin, Dr. Steven Heymsfield, Dr. Corby Martin, and our entire faculty team, who made this possible. With #obesity and #metabolic disease rising worldwide, investing in research capacity has never been more important. #ObesityResearch #NutritionScience #ResearchTraining #ScientificEducation #MetabolicHealth

Semaglutide versus caloric restriction-induced weight loss: insights into effects on skeletal muscle mass and function "...suggests that the loss of muscle function and mass during treatment is not unique to GLP-1RA pharmacology but rather reflects the biology of caloric restriction, and these deficits can be reversed upon weight regain." physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1113/JP…

Let's talk about energy allocation, also known as energy partitioning! Relevant to any animal that controls its body temperature, such as us, (most) other mammals & (most) birds. Broadly speaking, there are three different energy allocation priorities. Let's start! 1/ 🧵👇

Last week we honored the legacy of David Wasserman with a symposium featuring 4 fantastic speakers - ⁦@Hughey_Lab⁩, Darleen Sandoval, ⁦@Kang_Lab⁩, and ⁦@Isotopomer⁩. We learned, we laughed, and we remembered our dear friend and colleague.

Huge appreciation to all grant agencies that started to fund my work last year including Diabetes Action Foundation & Alzheimer’s Association, and the latest fund from American Heart Association to study the role of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) in food reward and appetite.
