📸 ARTIST IN THE SPOTLIGHT - AMANDA LOPEZ 🎞️ I'm starting a new series, where I'll highlight the extraordinary talents I had the honor of connecting with. Please share and feel free to give me extra ideas! May I invite you to explore the work of Amanda Lopez @Snapshotlopes , who just opened her solo show 'Guadelupe' in the Altura Gallery, Lincoln Heights, L.A. Her work has been shown at The MoMa, The Country Music Hall of Fame, and has been collected by The Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Amanda Lopez creates images to connect people. Her work is a celebration of life, family and culture. And it's an explosion of pure color. Amanda, in an interview with The Photographic Journal @tpj : "I love color. I grew up in a home where every room in our house was painted a different color." Her 'Lowriders' project is a vivid expression of that love, combined with natural empathy for the people she photographs. Lowriding is a Latino/a tradition started by Mexican American communities in 1940 to assert their space and empower their lives through a unique car-making tradition infused with soul, entrepreneurship, and ingenuity. It is an affirmation of identity and values, right at the core of Amanda's work. Strength, vulnerability and tenacity are keywords in the 'Guadelupe' project as well. Amanda: “It celebrates Mexico’s beloved patron saint, Our Lady of Guadalupe, while exploring the ways she has impacted my life. It is intended to honor the divine feminine energy, sacredness, and healing that Guadalupe's imagery can encapsulate for people of all genders and backgrounds." "The project includes portraits of family and friends who share my affinity with Guadalupe, as well as images of apparitions found in various public places. The project helped me feel less scared of whatever the unknown is, and so the beauty of photography, well for me, anyways, it’s a very healing practice. I think my work is culturally bold in those ways, I think even in my editorial and commercial work, I think clients hire me, because they see some of that in the personal work." Amanda Lopez is a member of @DiversifyPhoto , @womenphotograph and @theluupe
