The season is 1/3 of the way over. The Yankees are on pace for 96 wins. Their offense is 2nd in MLB in wRC+. Their pitching staff is 3rd in MLB in ERA. They have the best run differential in the AL by 30 runs.

@LeekNabers @RyanGarciaESM @Sjonesenjoyer @EricIrving134 He pitched very well. He did not carry them to anything, they played better in games he didn't pitch. It's not his fault except 24 gm5. Baseball is a sport with a lot of variables. One man can't carry a team in baseball is the main point, which you seem to dispute.

@LeekNabers @RyanGarciaESM @Sjonesenjoyer @EricIrving134 The Tigers are 3-3 in playoff games in which Skubal started in. They were 4-3 in games where he didn't. Baseball is not a one man sport. There are no guarantees and pitchers are not particularly consistent. Sometimes single players win it for their teams. It's never a guarantee.

@Hambone474 @YanksBar People like to say this like FIP isn't an outcome based stat that certainly measures individual imapct more accurately than RA9 WAR. Unfortunately there's no pitcher stat that measures pitcher impact as effectively as the several hitter stats.

@jtw249 @_24kin Yankees are quite good at getting on base for sluggers.

@_24kin Solo homers aren’t getting teams to the world’s series just like small balls isnt.. It’s a combination of both that creates the perfect offense in a postseason run.. The yankees have lacked that combination.. maybe just maybe that’s the point of more singles lol not less xbh😭

Why is it still a common belief that “small ball” and “stringing hits together” are the things that win in the playoffs? It is a 100% factual, proven thing that slugging, specifically hitting home runs, wins you playoff games

@ettingermentum It's really interesting how when two evenly matched teams play each other, when one of the starting five remembers to play basketball one side gets an advantage lol

@pitchprofiler @federalbaseball @jonbecker_ Pretty sure the RA9 in Bwar adjusts for team defense as well as quality of offense faced. Still agree with you that fwar is better but i believe you're missing that here.

What if you can’t get outs like another pitcher because you’re on the worst defensive team and he’s on the best? For example, last year the Cubs had a 36 Outa Above Average and 30 Runs Prevented, the Angels had a -54 OAA and -43 runs prevented. That’s a 70 run swing. rWAR doesn’t do anything to rectify that. Fangraphs does not because they only take non-defensible outcomes.

@CHAMBERLAIN_GTM @BaseballWRLD_ @tangotiger All these things existed when tango did the math in 2007. For what it's worth, he advocates batting your 3 best hitters at 1,2, and 4. 4 being the most reward for slug but the least for obp out of the three. Sounds like you mostly agree.

@sidthesiddid @BaseballWRLD_ @tangotiger Yes there’s a ton of evidence that your best hitter should bat first or second. More plate appearances, better run expectancy production and situations, etc.

@BaseballWRLD_ The Book: Playing The Percentages in Baseball by @tangotiger, Michel G. Lichtman, Andrew E. Dolphin. Imo a must-read if you're a baseball stat nerd. Tango has a link to it in his twitter bio iirc.
