CALLER: I opened a High Yield Savings Account. My $20,000 emergency fund earns 4.5% interest. That’s $900 a year doing nothing. DAVE RAMSEY: Get rid of it. Put that $20,000 toward your mortgage! CALLER: But I’m earning $900 a year for free. DAVE RAMSEY: Debt is the enemy! Pay off the house! CALLER: My mortgage rate is 3%. I’m earning 4.5%. DAVE RAMSEY: That’s not how you get rich! In reality, if your savings rate beats your debt rate, keep the cash. That’s called arbitrage. Every dollar matters.

I’ve tried to stay out of this little controversy, but I will say this: Every criticism I’ve seen of this particular story appears to be based on projection. People are filling in the gaps in this short story with personal biases. Let’s respect this couple and the choices they’ve made. Let’s give them the grace we hope for. Let’s applaud them for striving to live their covenants in the best way they know how in their unique circumstances. Let us love them as Christ does. That is all.

“I grew up in Arizona, served a mission in Mexico, and went to college thinking I had a pretty clear path for my life. Then I met my now wife Victoria, and everything changed in the best way. “She always knew she wanted to be a doctor. Pediatric neurology isn’t an easy road, but it’s who she is, compassionate, steady, brilliant, and drawn to help kids and families through the hardest things life hands them. When she got into med school in California, we packed up and moved. “Stepping into her dream together was an easy choice. I wanted to support her the way she has always supported me. And honestly, watching her work and sacrifice and love people like she does has strengthened my faith more than anything else. “My path hasn’t been as clear. I’ve tried different directions, learned a lot, prayed a lot. Some days I still feel like I’m figuring it out. But I do know that God doesn’t measure timelines. He measures love, humility, and the way we show up for each other. “Supporting her doesn’t shrink my purpose—it expands it. Our callings from God can look different, and that’s beautiful. I’m building my future too, but I’m grateful that right now, part of my purpose is cheering for the person I love most as she steps into hers. “There’s not one 'right way' to build a family or a future. For us, this is ours. And it’s sacred.” — Nate

My wife worked to put me through law school and an MBA at BYU. We graduated debt free. She continues to work from home while simultaneously being the best mother to our two kids (and TWINS due next month). We’re doing the best we can and we love the Lord.

This story is a wonderful representation of what God thinks masculinity should look like. Most of the outrage comes from misunderstanding what the post is saying. Nate’s statement makes it very clear that he’s trying to figure his own side of it out, but in the meantime what he knows he can do is support his wife. That’s exactly what divine masculinity looks like. Finding a way to be useful and serve his family despite whatever circumstances prevent him from fitting the traditional mold. Hats off, the guy is a champ for rolling up his sleeves instead of giving up. And the ones hating on this are probably either way too caught up in the worldly view of traditional masculinity, or they are coping with their own inadequacies. Probably both.

It is impossible to promote the idea that in motherhood we have the most noble and divine calling a woman can possibly have, yet some “strengths need a different environment to thrive and grow.” No mortal profession allows strengths to thrive and grow like motherhood. The end.

Just last week, President Oaks repeated the command to avoid contention. Now, not even a week later, people are being contentious over a post about a young husband's support of his wife becoming an M.D. Hmmm... perhaps the Church posted the story about Nate to test people to see if they can be peacemakers? (I doubt that's the reason, but it is food for though.) You can disagree with Nate's choices, but do so peacefully.

Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson taught a Utah audience about the importance of being kind on Friday, April 10, 2026.   “Our kind acts, one a day over a lifetime, are vital to the well-being of our families, community and nation,” President Johnson told more than 150 educators, business, government and religious leaders during the 2026 Kindness Summit at Rice-Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah.   Learn more about her remarks on Newsroom. newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/presid…

The amount of negative comments on here is wild to me. Every person is different. Every relationship is different. Every family dynamic is different. This family, it seems, is active in the Gospel. They’re an eternal family. The provider in the family is the wife. The husband takes on other obligations. If my wife had a career that provided more than mine, I’d switch places IN A HEART BEAT. To denounce and attack that isn’t right. Much less Christlike.

I’m honestly surprised by how today went. This whole firestorm over the Church’s post about Nate and his family revealed divisions I didn’t realize existed to this degree. I always thought: some members see things one way, others see things differently—but at the core, we’re united in our commitment to Christ, the prophet, and our covenants. Different lives, same foundation. Big yikes. The intellectual pretzels we’re tying ourselves into are wild. At times, we’re no different than the Sadducees. Can the Church not uphold an ideal and show examples of families who aren’t picture-perfect but are still faithful to the gospel and their covenants? So many are assuming nefarious intent or claiming the Church is “giving in.” I even saw someone say the Church should expect more sacrifice from women… aren’t we all invited to sacrifice—men and women—every conference? And this is where we go over a post about a husband supporting his wife? I’m just going to hunker down, maybe commit a little “heresy” by supporting my wife as she teaches one day a week at the college, while continuing to be an incredible mom and wife—and keep my focus on Christ and His restored Church.

I am disappointed by the number of members who are upset with this. It's like they're screaming, "If you have a non-traditional family structure, don't bother learning about our faith. You're not welcome here." Christ would have given this man a hug and called him faithful.

It's a lovely story, which is why it's so sad to see people in the comments brandishing the Family Proclamation as a weapon against... *checks notes* ... the Church that issued the Family Proclamation. Folks who are doing that have completely lost the plot.
