ICE arrested Arlit Martinez two days before her 15-year-old son died from cancer. The Maryland mother of four was headed to work when she was detained. Despite urgent pleas from her family, lawyers, and doctors, she was not released to say goodbye. She is reportedly still in federal custody. Her husband is now left to grieve and bury their son alone. This is beyond cruelty.

Finally, my video: Hurricane MELISSA at Ground Zero. #MELISSA was the most epic chase of my career—and the most intense #hurricane I’ve witnessed. So, I gave it the grand, full-length documentary treatment. I was on the island of #Jamaica for 10 days, and this video brings you with me through that whole odyssey—getting to the island, slowly closing in on my prey, nailing the core of this nuclear-grade Category 5, and then many days living in the aftermath. Instead of just doing highlights, I wanted to make something complete—something that has chase strategy (for chaserdudes), minute-by-minute footage of the storm’s progress (for meteorologists to analyze), high-octane eyewall footage (for adrenaline junkies), survivors’ tales (for those who want the personal angle), and extensive documentation of the aftermath in multiple towns (for those interested in societal impacts). But, most of all, I hope this video serve as a useful historical document for Jamaicans—an up-close and detailed record of this truly cataclysmic event in their nation’s history. Regarding MELISSA’s winds… I feel convinced these are the highest winds I’ve personally witnessed or filmed—or heard. (The screaming sound as the storm peaked was harsh and painful, driving the people with me to hold their ears.) Big shoutout to the tall, hearty palm in front of the hotel. It served as a wind meter, showing its relative speed and direction. Without that tree, the eyewall footage would have just looked like dense clouds blowing past an airplane window. That tree shows the POWER—the way it bends in the really big, scary gusts. Eventually, though, things get so crazy you can’t even see the tree—it just disappears into the screaming white void. These winds were truly fierce. They even took down concrete buildings—obliterating the entire second floor of the concrete building across the street from my hotel. God knows what velocities some of those especially screamy gusts reached—but I’m grateful I was in a solid structure with thick walls. So… If you want to come on a tough chase with a veteran chaserdude, sit back and enjoy this video from the beginning. If you just want to see the storm, start at Chapter 4: The Approach. And if you want to cut straight to the chocolate cake without eating your dinner (like a child), go right to Chapter 5: The Cataclysm. That’s the eyewall. There you have it. Reaching the unreachable. These places aren’t just random spots on a map for me—this is where my mother’s side of the family is from. 
Yesterday I travelled through Ginger Hill, Merry Hill, Mahogany Hill, Claremont, Maybole, New Holland, and more. I truly wish I could have reached and provided aid for EVERYONE. 🥹 I stopped at homes that were severely damaged, calling people out to make sure they received supplies. I climbed hills, went down narrow lanes—whatever it took to reach as many people as possible. I focused on these areas because they’re not the “popular” or easily accessible places. They’re very remote, very rural communities—yet they’re home to thousands of people. ✔️ Over 600 care packages
✔️ Over 100 cases of water
✔️ Tarpaulins
✔️ Baby products
✔️ Toiletries
✔️ Clothing
✔️ Shoes To be honest, nothing looks the same. Places I’ve visited countless times were almost unrecognizable. It was a humbling day. These communities will need support for a LONG time. Many people lost their homes, their farms, their businesses—everything they’ve worked for their entire lives. But what stood out most? So many of them were still trying their hardest to stay in good spirits. 🥹 To everyone who donated or even shared a post—thank you. I’m deeply grateful.

And here's my report on #Hurricane #MELISSA in #Jamaica. Please note this is purely meteorological & it's quite technical—so casual readers focused on the human impact won't find it interesting. Meteorologists & weather nerds, on the other hand, will find this rare look deep inside the core of one of the strongest known hurricane landfalls fascinating. Main points: * My location was well inside the RMW (radius of maximum winds) & got totally raked by the eyewall’s inner right-front quadrant. * The SE edge of the eye apparently grazed my location, temporarily bringing reduced wind speeds, improved visibility, and a marked shift in wind direction. * My minimum pressure was 926.0 mb. While this might seem high, the report discusses how it actually makes sense, given recon data & the fact that I was probably a few miles from the absolute center. * MELISSA's winds were absolutely ferocious—the most intense I've witnessed in 84 hurricanes. And the resultant damage was spectacular. This was a truly rare specimen. This is a preliminary version of this report which I rushed to completion because of time-sensitive requests for the data. In the next couple of weeks, I'll be releasing an expanded version with plentiful damage pics. My next focus: the video! I am hoping to get that out in the next 1-2 weeks.
