In the West, is especially common within young adult ministries like FOCUS. It’s a fruit of feminism, where the impetus to men is to be virtuous, while to women it is to discern virtue in men. It facilitates the fallen inclination of the latter to avoid accountability for faults.

This is legitimately heartbreaking. Pray for these guys who feel this way. God is faithful though, He certainly was to me. I pray He sustains these young men til they accomplish their goals.

And what has that “Blondelian imprint” left us within the Church throughout the past 60 years? If only someone had warned us of what the implications would be!
Roser tweet media
Simple@SimonSimplicio

Blondel has been called "the philosopher or Vatican II." He influenced virtually every important 20th century Catholic theologian. Wojtyla, Rahner, De Lubac, Von Balthasar. The encyclical 'Fides et Ratio' bears a Blondelian imprint, and not a Thomistic one.

@HarrierMagnus Their view is that the documents formally teach heresies, not merely that some people misued them and read heresies into them. If we were to reject the documents of Vatican II merely because some read heresies into documents teaching no heresies, that's post hoc propter hoc.

There are interpretations of the teaching of Vatican II that preserve continuity of doctrine with previous teaching. Any such interpretation is to be preferred to interpretations implying contradiction, given Vatican II's own explicit claims to maintain previous teaching.

@CathRoser Yet how are we to understand this gaze, in via, in light of JST’s working out of the Gift of Wisdom, which is without mediation of concept, but through connaturality & love?

Contemplation is the soul's clear gaze upon God, freely dwelling upon Wisdom, suspended in admiration Intellectualist masters (e.g. St. Thomas) emphasize the soul's gaze upon God Voluntarist masters (e.g. St. Bonaventure) emphasize the soul's suspension in admiration

@HazThomist Hatred for scholasticism on the grounds of it being anti-mysticism really confuses mysticism for quietism. The beatific vision is the perfection of the intellect, not its annihilation.

“It is necessary that the formal ground by which wisdom attains the divine cause is the experimental knowledge of God, insofar as he is united with us, rooted within our hearts, and gives himself to us… To know according to the spirit arises from this very experience of union”

I’m sorry but you were introduced to a false version of “orthodoxy”. I’ve seen this way too often, people introduced to the faith by Hopko and DBH almost never survive unless they move past their modernist heretical nonsense. Cause once you enter the church you realize 99% of the clergy, parishioners, and saints all consider your views heretical and teach very differently.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a philosophically coherent vision of the cosmos and humanity’s role in it prior to forming concrete political opinions

A good thread to which I intend to add little, save for this observation: “The fathers universally affirm” is one of the most loaded statements one could ever make. If and when a man says this- whomever he is or claims to be- check that claim immediately to the extent you’re able. There are truly very little things about which one could ever make that statement. And its a concrete sign of maturity- both spiritual and intellectual- that a man avoids making sweeping generalizations on patristics and begins to specify with some care to the effect of: “Patristics of this region” “Patristics of this school” “Patristics of this era” “Patristics of this state of life” etc etc etc

Schismatic @CathRoser, who seemingly doesn't even know the matter of the predestination debate, claims that you can't reject that God gives all merits gratuitously to men without being a heretic. Is this true, obviously not: 🧵

"Whoever loves the truth hates error, and this hatred of error is the touchstone by which love of the truth is recognized… If you do not love the truth, you can say that you love it and even make people believe it. Yet, be sure that in this case, you will lack horror for what is false, and, by this sign, it will be recognized that you do not really love the truth." - Ernest Hello
