As for his foreign policy, not everything was terrible but he was not the promoter of Democracy that’s often claimed. His support for self-determination was nationalistic wherever he thought the population was ill suited or unready for democracy. Also, he got us into a stupid war that ruined the 20th century, allowed for the rise of Bolshevism and Nazism and so screwed up his handling of the treaty of Versailles that we had to go back to war two decades later. TR had similar views on some things, but TR didn’t do that.
