Some interesting numbers here... The uncomfortable truth is that most of these programs (plus a few more) really belong at the FCS level, but would rather pretend to be FBS programs just to have that "FBS" label
Sam Herder@SamHerderFCS

Smallest FBS football budgets in FY25 (2024 season) Akron: $8.2M Louisiana–Monroe $9.1M Ball State $9.4M Kent State: $9.7M Sam Houston: $9.7M Kennesaw State: $10.6M Miami (OH): $11M Eastern Michigan: $11.1M LA Tech: $11.3M WKU: $11.4M

@Genetics56 A B1G and SEC breakaway would give me Raw vs Smackdown vibes from the WWF days after they split into two networks competing separate from each other. I’m pretty sure it was all fake storyline but it was cool as a fan.

Big Ten information and news
After 3 plus years of talking about an eventual breakaway/splintering/fracturing the truth has finally come out. I know my haters will not say I was right and the idiots who bashed me are not going to comment to apologize.

@ImmaculateView @RacketRockRoll You know it’s never black/white when billable hours benefit & courts are involved But this will be good for ratings. Instant production differentiation & identification. Realignment to P2 has helped, but this galvanizes P2 v P2 interest. IMO a big brand jumps to better CBA

The news breaking out of Georgia right now is pretty big. I dont have the time right now to fully dive into it but I will later today. The one thing I want to get out right now is that Autonomy is not the same thing as Independence. This isn't the SEC leaving. It is the beginning of the push to Autonomy. I have a very basic example for folks to try and help understand what that means. As I have told some others, think "designated hitter" rule in MLB. The two Leagues are still both part of the same organization, neither of them is Independent from MLB yet they have this difference between them. It is an autonomous decision. Now with the Autonomous Conferences, they are going to approach rule making conference by conference on concepts that Anti-Trust protections would have helped them on. More later but for now, I will once again post this below so that you can see this was already in motion. Its just that what happened in Congress now seems to be pushing this forward.

@RossDellenger @On3 This overall issue actually very much needs Congress. But it does not need the nonsense they have been pushing. There are multiple public policy choices only Congress can make but so far they are not taking it at all seriously.

College sports’ seven-year lobbying effort for a federal solution is down to its last gasp. The latest flop is another reminder of Ronald Reagan’s famous quote: “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” More in our @On3 weekly sports biz column on3.com/news/inside-th…

@BenScottStevens We need a complete ncaa realignment. 12 regions, 2 divisions in each region, no conference championship, win the region go to the playoffs. Also salary cap

@dilanesper Running for a 3rd term is the giveaway. If he was afraid no one could possibly fill his shoes, then he'd done a bad job succession planning in a time when it was one of the most important things he needed to do.

This is the best pro-FDR thread and it isn't wrong in particulars, but I think it weighs the importance of some of his actions wrong. The 3rd and 4th terms, dealings with Stalin, and Japanese Internment are much more important than this thread argues.

Given that @jaycost and I are doing a presidential ratings podcast (among other things -- check out @aei_STpodcast!), I hate to get ahead of myself but: FDR is genuinely a God Tier president. I say this as someone libertarian-ish, so I don't really *want* to. But it's true. 1/

@sinman_84 Reasonable debates can be had about Wilson and Versailles. I probably wouldn’t put most of the blame on Wilson either internationally or domestically even though he has his share.

@Ben_Petersheim @JonahDispatch I'm open to the argument that he screwed up the peace with his handling of the Treaty of Versailles, but IMHO the 🇺🇸 was justified in finally entering the war in 1917.

@JonahDispatch @souljagoyteller Why is Wilson blamed for the U.S. entering WWI when the declaration was passed with bipartisan majorities? Hadn't Germany provoked it with the return of unrestricted submarine warfare and the Zimmerman Telegram? Not to mention the bombing of Black Tom Island.

@hulsey_ryan @RBrookhiser Doesn’t Catton focus almost solely on the Eastern Theater? Especially the Army of the Potomac? Foote gives plenty of time to the other theaters of the war outside Virginia.

@Ben_Petersheim @AstorAaron No, the larger house would be gerrymandered just as easily and Mike Johnson would still control what comes to the floor and what votes are taken.

We need a Constitutional Amendment (or maybe several) that does the following: 1. Bans Presidential pardons after Election Day (and before Inauguration Day) 2. Bans partisan and racial gerrymandering 3. Bans redistricting mid-decade 4. Requires Congress to increase the House
