$5,227 so far with 16 days to go. Make it 7 and we'll do all 21 illustration for sure. Grab a hardback and then pick up an extra for that 12 year old boy in your life that needs to read a story about mean with muskets fighting off monsters in an Appalachian inspired Frontier.

If you're looking for an adventure novel with a unique twist, I recommend it. I'm illustrating it, but I'm doing so because I recommend it. It's great. That money you were going to give to a large entertainment conglomerate this month? Withhold it. Buy indie.

Why yes, I did start a series exploring the Myth of the American Frontier just for the 250th. Sadly, there wasn't time between finishing my last series to get the first book ready for July 4th, but I've at least got the Kickstarter up to fund real pen and ink illustrations from @jholtillus kickstarter.com/projects/micha…

@sligernation She found me a really sick illustrated Odyssey at B&N that’s the Alexander Pope translation, which matches the Iliad I already had. Now I just need a good Aeneid and I’m set.

Just finished watching Project Hail Mary with the wife. Absolutely stellar film. Disappointed I missed the chance to see it in theaters. The ending especially tickles me -- it's ambiguous, but hopeful. We don't know where Grace will end up, eventually, but either option is good.

@BCarpenterBooks @MichaelFKane @HariSel57511397 Similar. I don't have what it takes to break out on social media. I can barely manage writing and publishing. The best I can do is just keep telling stories and sharing bits of who I am. I'm grateful for anyone who takes a chance on my work.

Some authors are better at breaking containment than others—@MichaelFKane and @HariSel57511397 come to mind. They have pithy opinions to share and have been successful because of it. Not knocking them for it at all, I wish them well and hope they never slow down. I….am not pithy. I am not an AI writer. I’m not sellable based on my social media presence. I’m a (very) tired author and father of handicapped kids who uses Twitter as a quasi-blog because some people will acknowledge my updates. If I sell my books to half of those people and a few more that I have never interacted with, I will continue to break even. I am building a readership over years and decades because that is all I have. I will likely never go viral and sell books that way. Any reader I get is a miracle, and I will hoard every single one of them like Smaug over a brass ring. People will buy my books because they exist, or they will never buy my books at all. I am not my product. Word of mouth is all I have, and will ever have.
Katie Roome@RedHedgedragon

Word of mouth is the only trustworthy signal of quality left. Publishers put out crap Covers suck Influencers are paid Booktok people promote stuff they haven’t even read Plus, unless you have a product with mass appeal (eg romantasy), even an influencer isn’t going to move the needle much. A big influencer audience isn’t a big group of readers. They would have to be hitting an extraordinarily specific audience to be effective, and move people who don’t usually follow them for their book recs from “not looking for a book” to “buying this book NOW” The influencer model simply doesn’t translate well to fiction books But readers trust other readers

Look guys. My next book's interior artwork isn't going to pay itself. So I'm going to need you guys to show up for the kickstarter and buy a nice shiny hardback that I'm going to get offset print. We are talking full sewn binding commercial print job, not print on demand. Launches LATE this month, fingers crossed. Follow the campaign below. kickstarter.com/projects/micha…

I was fortunate enough to get a preview copy of this gem. Such a good read. Pick this up if you’re a fan of classics like Heinlein or newer SciFi like Project Hail Mary. The hardback copy is superb; beautiful endpapers. Well done @PassagePress @ark_press

@MichaelFKane Well planned and plotted. It paid off beautifully. Personally I love it when authors plant these little seeds that won't bloom for 3-4 books but when they do it's absolutely gorgeous. It's like a reward for commitment.

Fun fact. In After Moses I deployed a little known trope called Chekov's Hiraeth. And that is the inclusion of Welsh characters early in the story (Ewan and his crew to be specific) early in a story so that you have a justifiable excuse to use Hiraeth at a later point when thematically appropriate. (Book 5 in the case of After Moses when Matthew is at [redacted] thinking about [redacted]) Classic trope usage. 😉

Walter Isaacson, Elon Musk's biographer, in the post flight data review alongside the NASA Administrator. I wonder if he is writing one on Jared Isaacman, his caption was: "Yesterday's Starship launch was amazing, and it was inspiring to see Jared Isaacman so engaged with Bill Riley, Mark Juncosa, Musk, and the entire SpaceX team. He has energized the space program." Could also be Elon, so much has already happen since the first book came out. There is no way to write a definitive bio on him, it will have to be a series.
