@BillClinton @DemagogueWatch Why do Republicans hate poor people? And women. And people of color. And LGBTQ+. And anyone who’s not a rich, white male?

In 1997, we reached a deal to fully fund the WIC program so that all eligible families who applied could receive critical nutrition assistance. Under the current House bill, hundreds of thousands of newborns, young children, and postpartum mothers would be turned away, and millions more would have their benefits cut. We must continue the long-standing commitment to this program and provide the necessary funding. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/…

Shameless: Rep. Lauren Boebert is being called out for the weak sauce excuses she is offering for why she callously threw in the trash the memorial pin of 10-year-old Uvalde shooting victim Maite Rodriguez. The memorial pin is a pair of green Converse sneakers — the only way her family was able to identify her after the assault weapon that was used on her made her unrecognizable. In a clip that has gone viral, gun violence activist Elijah Pelton explains to Boebert who the memorial pin was for, but she remained coldly unreceptive. "We told her who Maite was. We told her that the green Converse were one of the only ways her family could recognize her," Pelton explained. "She did not say anything to us but did shake her head ‘no’ after I told her that we hope she takes action on gun violence prevention." And then she threw the memorial pin in the garbage. Boebert offered a different explanation for what transpired, trying to blame her callous, disrespectful act on her air pods. The Colorado Congresswoman released a video saying that she didn't hear what the activist said because she had air pods on, and that she thought it was an activist who had previously confronted her aggressively. The truth is, the memorial pin for Maite conflicts with Boebert's need to push for more gun ownership, especially for AR-15 style weapons as she is one of four House Republicans who want to make the AR-15 the first official gun of the United States. Do you agree that Lauren Boebert, and other members of Congress who refuse to budge on common sense gun control, should be forced to face the parents of children murdered by gun violence?

I hesitate to tell people I’m a writer in my everyday life. Since putting “Writer” in my bio, there’s been this heckling voice screaming “fraud!” from deep in the back corner of my brain. Writing, at least until the last few years, was just a secret hobby. It was my coping mechanism, a way to escape to other worlds while examining the grim realities of my own. I don’t have an MFA. I have never published a novel, never even sent a query letter. My blog isn’t public-facing at the moment. I use too many commas, and even though I know what a semi-colon is, I can’t identify where they belong in my writing. What right do I have to call myself a writer? The imposter syndrome is real. Hell, I wouldn’t hold it against you if you said I am one. What I do have is a life’s worth of personal essay collections, fiction works, creative non-fiction pieces, and thousands of pages of research notes. I put my soul into every single one knowing most won’t see the light of day. Those things tell me I’m a writer. My novel, Shadow Guides, is in the editing stage. I love and believe in it with all my heart, and I’m committed to giving it all the time and as many rewrites as it needs to be query-ready. That tells me I’m a writer. Still, I question if I’m worthy of a seat at the writing community table. #ImposterSyndrome #WritingCommunity #WritingCommmunity #WritersLife #WriterConfession #confession #writingtwt #firstselfie

Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.

The DC Board on Professional Responsibility has recommended Rudy Giuliani be DISBARRED due to his actions in trying to overturn the 2020 election, noting that Giuliani's "utter disregard for facts denigrates the legal profession." The Board states that Giuliani's misconduct "sadly transcends all his past accomplishments." The DC Court of Appeals must now decide whether to follow through on the recommendation and disbar him.

We are heartbroken to learn the very sad news about 2-year-old Wynter Cole-Smith. Late yesterday, investigators announced that her body was found in Detroit, nearly 100 miles away from her home in Lansing, Michigan. For the last few days, we all held out hope that Wynter would be found safe. This outcome is devastating, and our thoughts are with Wynter's family. We appreciate the many law enforcement agencies involved for their tenacious efforts and want to say thank you to all of you, for sharing Wynter's story and supporting our missing children.

“I was taking a break at work the other day when a stern-looking woman stopped near her car and watched me curiously before saying, "What are you doing?" I looked up from the ground. "What does it look like I'm doing?" She waited a moment, then said, "It looks like you're picking up rocks from the ground, looking at them closely, discarding some, then keeping a few." I smiled and said, "Spot on! Don't you ever pick up rocks you think are interesting and pretty?" She said, 'Well, yeah, I did that as a kid." I motioned for her to join me by the rocky slope. "Well, go ahead! It's still just as fun as when you were little." She paused a moment, and I went back to my activity. Soon she began picking up stones, looking at them and then asking my opinion about the ones she liked. Soon we were showing off the ones we thought were pretty, agreeing on the rocks that needed to "try harder" and "be more interesting", and giving each other stones that the other person liked. Her smile faded slightly as she stood and brushed off her blouse. “Well, have a good day." I said, "Thanks for playing with me for a little bit. This was fun!" She looked briefly shocked and said, in a voice full of wonder, "Yes, it was fun to play a bit." She sat in her car for a moment, held up a rock in her hand, gazed at it, and then drove away. TRUMP (BUSINESS) RECORDS: I was in court today for argument about where the Manhattan DA’s criminal case against Trump should be heard: in state court where it started or in federal court, as Trump wants. And after 2.5 hours and a surprise witness, it went exactly as expected. 1/
