We’ve had cities without rent control for decades and this NEVER fucking happened, EVER. Not ONCE have landlords voluntarily lowered the price of their rentals. Tax breaks all get pocketed and vacancies dont reduce prices. All they do is RAISE RAISE RAISE the rent nomatter what.

In my experience, leftists do not appreciate that rent control cannot make housing affordable. Giving tenants stability is a noble goal, but if rent control is done sloppily, you get some combination of: wait lists, black markets, etc.––unaffordability by another name

@yFactr @Hadamijo @souljagoyteller To make my point more clear: if I replace the progressive income tax brackets with a flat tax, have I changed the tax base? No. I'm just adjusting the calculation against the same base. In the case of land value tax, the tax rates are just being adjusted.

This is an insane story.
