RUNNING THE MARATHON I was a small angel check in a company nearly a decade ago, where a multi stage firm led the round. It was a hot round and I had to work hard to convince the founder that I could be helpful. The company got into trouble and the lead essentially abandoned them. Only a few smaller investors stuck with them. Got this message today which made my day: “You truly are one of the best checks we got.” Founders: everyone wants to be there during good times; ensure you have investors and people around you who have the endurance to run the marathon with you and will be there for you when times inevitably go bad.
