If you got winded shoveling snow off your 1 car driveway, you probably need to invest in your aerobic capacity.

If I could tattoo something on every coach's forehead it would be learn physics. It's not about the weight, it's about the force. Here's the truth: There's no lift in the weight room that can produce 4-5X bodyweight forces in a fraction of a second. Your 200lbs high school athlete is not squatting 1000lbs in a tenth of a second. But they handle those kinds of forces daily and we casually call it sprinting. You know what else can generate those kinds of forces? Altitude drops. Again. This is not a debate. This is math. This is physics. @WGF1 talked about this in Minnesota two years ago. You take a 193 lbs athlete and drop them 6 inches! They have to handle almost 600lbs (2600N for the nerds) of impact force. Dan and @Matt_Van_Dyke have an AWESOME article breaking down some of the specifics of collison training here: sportsmith.co/articles/colli… The takeaway? You can't guarantee your athletes will get faster if they increase their squat from 135 to 315. Those forces are too small. You CAN guarantee that if your athletes can handle multiple times BW forces from altitude drops, they will run faster. You can also progress and regress these easily. • Lower/higher boxes. • Single vs. double leg landings. If you can teach your athlete's brains that it's safe for them to land from a 42" box, their performance gains will be ridiculous.

Part of why middle age people run the marathon is it's a modern day spiritual experience: -It's challenging. You go through lots of emotions. Making you feel alive. -It's communal. You're in this together. You experience a collective bond. -There's a big party at the end.
