Hedengren has already broken three NCAA records in the last few weeks, and she's only a freshman. (And the outdoor track season is just starting — she should get even better as the season progresses.) She's the most promising American female distance prospect in history. Meanwhile, other teenagers here in the US, and in places as far afield as Australia and New Zealand and Botswana are smashing age-group records at an unprecedented rate. There's almost no documented history of teen track athletes taking performance enhancing drugs, so it's doubtful that's behind what's going on.

Two more observations about the landmark Reich lab paper on recent evolution in West Eurasian populations that came out a few days ago. (1) David Reich is not just a great scientist, but also a skilled politician. He knew back in 2018 when he wrote his now-famous NYT op-ed that anger at his findings from his fellow liberals might impede or complicate his efforts to conduct research in the future, so he launched a nuanced (and frankly courageous) opening salvo in the pages of the Times, warning the left that they might not like where population genetics was heading, but they would only end up embarrassing themselves if they stood in its way. The op-ed was greeted with anger, and moves by ideologically motivated academics (especially anthropologists) to discredit and isolate him. Ultimately, those efforts failed, and Reich was then free to quietly continue in his work, which he did, slowly building toward the case he presented last week in Nature. So when the paper was published, you barely heard a peep from the usual suspects, who knew that they had already lost. Reich had built such a formidable body of research that he had become un-cancellable. (2) Which leads me to my second point. You've probably heard that Bluesky likes to think of itself as the place on the Internet where serious scientists go to discuss the latest research developments. So how much discussion did the Reich lab paper get on Bluesky? Well, I did a cursory search and came up with nothing. And if you believe the post below, I was the only account on the platform who posted about it.

When I think of the parade of embarrassing figures doing and saying embarrassing and stupid things in the Trump administration, I often remember that quote from Theodore Dalrymple about the purpose of communist propaganda being not so much to indoctrinate but rather to humiliate the populace, and wonder whether this is also the Trump administration's strategy — to break down the morale of the country by almost daily presenting it with absurdities and exaggerations and lies in order to bring it into a state of learned helplessness — but then I remember that Trump's not smart enough to concoct such a plan, and the whole spectacle becomes even more depressing.

The development comes as new footage appears to show Ritchson's neighbor blocking the road while he was on his motorcycle. "After reviewing available evidence, including video footage and witness statements, authorities determined that no criminal charges will be pursued," said the Brentwood Police Department. "Mr. Ritchson’s actions were found to be in self-defense." "Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered, Mr. Ritchson declined to pursue charges." The case has been closed.

Here are my thoughts on the Firefly news of the new show being animated: -I’m very happy for all the actors getting to reprise their roles - I think it’s a HUGE missed opportunity to not do it in live action since they’re still capable. - yes if the cartoon is successful it could potentially lead to more BUT why waste time waiting on a potential? We only get a short time on this planet. No one’s getting any younger. Just do a live action show like everyone wants. Thats my 2 cents. What do you think?

Going to the rodeo for a regular family is an absolute nightmare of expensive and hassle. Traffic is insane. Parking is costly and a long trek. The train is both unsafe and overcrowded and runs from a place people work to another place people work. Decent tickets where you can actually see the action and concert stage for a family of four is at least $1000.00. The carnival rides outrageously priced. The food (except @trillburgers) is ridiculously priced as well. Now imagine you get to go for free. You get escorted there in a luxury SUV driven by public servants who have the authority to run lights and drive around traffic. You get to park up close and be escorted in with no lines ever. You are catered to by both rodeo staff and people paid by taxpayers to do actual work. You get free merch. You get access to the most expensive and closest area for almost every night you wanted but one night you are told you can only be in your free, catered luxury suite. But instead of being happy you try to bully your way in and when rejected lie and say you were assaulted and faced racism and misogyny. You publish recordings of you sounding like a shrill, entitled bipolar brat but, somehow, believe it vindicates you. Someone in her inner circle, please get our county judge some help.
