FSD 14.2 is good enough, I don't even know what I'd want to see added in FSD 14.3

So many people are making negative posts about the @Rivian autonomy day and demo drives. There are lots of defensively worded comparisons to @Tesla FSD. From where I sit, Rivian is trying to find a niche, providing a good EV and fulfilling a very important part of the market with a good looking full-size SUV and truck. Don't forget there are also still a lot of customers that won't touch Tesla, to their detriment, but they are still there. Rivian knows they are no where near Tesla's performance on FSD, just like @comma_ai has said, Tesla is in the lead and it's a race for second place. My recommendation, don't criticize another company's strategy with sensors, software, hardware or even the vehicle. Let competitors compete. There are a lot of smart people out there, looking to create the next great thing. Sometimes they even land in a place that might not end up winning. Let's not overlook that it's the people that make the difference here, let's appreciate all of their efforts and win together as a society progressing technology.

@SawyerMerritt Turning on Joe Mode (quieter blinkers and alerts) during a call and back off again after the call. I do like hearing loud blinkers on FSD so I know when the car is about to make a lane change.

@spd_racr It was not added back, but we've found a way around its removal by analyzing other available data. You won't need Tesla Insurance to access these features.

We're excited to announce that starting in December with the launch of our Pro tier, we will be officially introducing Full Self-Driving / Autopilot tracking; at no additional cost. This will provide detailed breakdowns of FSD utilization, disengagements, and new drive visuals.

@teslascope I remember you saying that FSD state was removed from the Fleet Telemetry API. Was it added back? Can I track FSD usage without needing Tesla Insurance?

The folks at @Tesla_AI are amazing! The last few days with #FSD14 on my Model 3 I haven't touched the steering wheel at all point to point. I had no safety disengagements with v13, but with v14, I've had no comfort disengagements either (e.g. bad lane selection). Outstanding!

@YunTaTsai1 Same with me. I have to back out my garage at an angle to get around my other car parked in the driveway. v14 does it perfectly every time.

There is no other software going through such wide ranges of real-world tests like Tesla Full-self Driving. From backing out of the side yard with lamp post to navigating safely after being hit by ☄️. Amazing.

People call it “break stabbing” on FSD 14 but I actually enjoy it, you can feel how the car is thinking and what it’s noticing If you are FSD nerd you gonna love this. Of course this will be fixed in the future FSD have no doubt will be smooth as FSD 13 was.

Got FSD 14.1.4 this morning. Outstanding work @Tesla_AI @aelluswamy! Had some micro-braking at stops and around some pedestrians, but that is small compared to improvements. - Better lane staging - Better follow distance - Much more natural nav - Pulled into my garage

@JonBbC_TechGeek I have AI4 and waiting for FSD 14, but the biggest thing I'm begging for is that I hope it fixes lane staging. Choosing the wrong lane at the wrong time has been 99% of my disengagements with 13.

Everyone is going on and on about stuff on 𝕏. You can create your own universe on here. Let’s say you love a certain sport team, you can curate your feed to only see that content. My universe is Tesla and everyone is talking about FSD 14.1.4, but for the first time in a long time, I don’t care. I really don’t. I mean… I want to care, but I just don’t. All I want is AI5.

@DirtyTesLa @chuckcook @CharlieCook2124 @ChickFil Since FSD is always running in shadow mode, they probably picked up a ton of drive thru sequences while folks manually drove through. The gray line keeps moving around even when FSD is off. 😄

Quick V14 thoughts as I wait for files to transfer. Overall, this update is insanely impressive with just a few polishes needed. Driving, starting the drive, and parking are all phenomenal improvements. Thanks @Tesla_AI! Good Very confident. FSD is always ready to go. The second you click the FSD button (on screen or steering wheel) it's driving, there's no "please try again" anymore, even after taking over. Stop signs still go to 0 but quickly continue, and there doesn't seem to be a double stop anymore IF traffic is clear (obviously lol) Parking is insanely good. There were some angles it did smoothly in one shot that I would have had to back up to park correctly. I think Take Over Immediately is a thing of the past (more on this soon) Bad Getting some brake stabbing. It's not at high speeds, but eg when trying to turn out of a parking lot, it'll start to go, stab the brakes for a half second, then continue the move. This happened several times. It constantly complains about the cameras needing cleaning (it's raining here). There's no more max speed!! This sucks. It was going 46+mph in a 35mph until I put it into sloth mode. Most of the time I think this won't matter, but I want more control (while I'm a responsible supervisor) not less.

In addition to seeing around corners better, do you think the front bumper camera will let FSD better detect speed bumps, dips, and help reduce red hand situations in direct sunlight due to the lower position? @chuckcook @edgecase411 @blktesla @BLKMDL3 @jonbb

@mikepat711 I agree with all these points. Based on the FSD release notes of what's coming next, it seems that representation of maps and data, and destination options are the next major changes expected in a later version update, and I hope that solves a lot of things. Can't wait.

VERY LONG POST WARNING: My top 5 remaining FSD issues: 1) Poor staging. This is an issue that is usually fine if you let it play out, but it takes away from the experience and causes stress. For example, it’s 5pm on a Wednesday, we are 1 mile away from a right turn on a 3 lane road. At this moment, my human brain understands that it’s 5pm, traffic is high, and my probability of last minute staging for the turn is much lower than it would be at, say, 3pm. As a human driver, I am going to make the calculation that moving a little slower in the right lane for 1mi is a better decision than riding the left lane until the last quarter mile, because chances of finding last minute space are much lower at 5pm. FSD is better than humans at finding space to shift lanes, but even still, it sometimes misses the mark here and has to re route, or has to be rude to get in. This isn’t a barrier to autonomy, but it is not good for the user experience and needs to be better. 2) Following cars too closely on highway at high speeds. I’ve never actually had any problems with this, but sometimes the car will be too close to a lead car at 75-80mph, and I get stressed that a sudden slowdown will cause us to rear end the lead vehicle. I’ve had some sudden slowdowns, and FSD shockingly does a great job at slowing down, but still, physics is physics. I’d be more comfortable if it made a little more space in dense, fast moving highway traffic. 3) Not doing a good enough job of adjusting speed in rainy conditions. I am probably a more conservative driver than most in slick conditions so maybe it’s just me, but I get stressed driving on the highway in the rain, because FSD really doesn’t give me confidence that it understands road friction is lower than it would be on a dry, sunny day. I never get concerned about visibility in rainy conditions, I just get stressed that the car isn’t adjusting speed with lower road friction in mind. Would like to have more confidence here. I’ve never actually had problems with this and usually let it go, but my stress levels are higher and I’m usually hovering the brake. 4) No destination option. It just isn’t as smart in parking lots. I think this is just a software update and they already have the tech to do this, but it just isn’t looped into FSD yet. Before speed profiles show up, the car is noticeably more cautious and stupid. It usually gets out of lots fine, but it’s too cautious and slow. And of course, it can’t park itself yet at the end of ride without disengaging. Again, the software already has the capability to do this, it just isn’t turned on in the FSD stack. 5) Consistency with stop (except right turn) and “no turn on red” signs. A lot of the time it handles these fine, but it isn’t consistent. I don’t understand why it does and doesn’t handle them correctly every time. Sometimes, even the same exact signs will be handled differently. Likely related to lead car cues. But there are some that it nails every time regardless of traffic patterns. It’s weird and I don’t understand it. But I want to note that it never handles these incorrectly in a way that isn’t safe. The car isn’t slamming its’ brakes or flying into an illegal right turn. This isn’t a safety concern for me, but obviously needs to be correct. These are the only “once or twice a month” issues I can think of, but I usually just let them all play out where I encounter them because it’s usually not a big deal. Other than these somewhat rare moments, every drive is a dream. And of course lastly, we’ve gotta figure out one lane bridge traffic patterns, and school zones. These almost never cause me disengagements because there’s almost always a lead car in school zones where I live, and usually one lane bridges have no traffic. But these are unsolved issues still that require solving. I’m sure they’ve already solved them, but it’s just going to take labor to get them solved at scale.

@edgecase411 Yes, proper lane selection is the one issue left I'm waiting to be solved. FSD tends to drive in an area as if it is new to the area. If you are familiar with an area, you tend to know which lanes cut off, and where to be ahead of time.
