"Don't come here. We don't want you."
This is the signal America is giving to Indians.
You see it on social media (racism), you see it at the Government level (policy), and you see it at the society level (violence, racism).
You can go into technicalities and nuances but the signal is pretty clear and direct.
"We don't want you. Don't come here."
If we don't feel personally welcomed at a relative's place; our ego kicks in and we say "iske ghar pair nahi rakhenge aaj ke baad".
You make sure you never set foot in that person's house again.
After all, no humiliation is ever worth it.
But Indian officials are "begging" for more US visas. Indian people are trying to figure jugaad if we can get in through another visa. Folks are wondering if someone can be paid off to get it done.
Are we incapable of feeling shame or humiliation?
Imagine someone ready to spit at us saying "don't come here" and we keep begging "please please aane de na".
Have we lost all self respect?
Look at the Chinese.
US restricted Nvidia chip exports earlier this year to halt their AI progress. The Chinese took it upon themselves to produce their own chips and have now banned Nvidia from the Chinese market.
Of course their own chips won't be good enough initially. But they will get there. Slowly and steadily. Bit by bit. Because they have that national will. They don't take a beating on their self respect.
"You think we can't grow without you? We will show you!"
Policy and measures and reforms are areas where you can fumble and stumble and find your way through.
But there is no substitute for self respect and national will. No country can go anywhere meaningful without these two traits.

Why do we think supersonic flight will work at scale on @boomsupersonic Overture when it didn't on Concorde?
Here's the business case for supersonic—and a never-before-seen piece of Overture's design. 🧵👇

@kevinslavelle @parkerconrad @Rippling I can attest to the bank issue with Global Contractors. @parkerconrad that's really not @kevinslavelle's fault, it is in fact @Rippling's fault. And I can't tell you how bad Time and Attendance is -- doesn't integrate well with holidays, submissions are glitchy, ...
English

I migrated to ASO (and pay a lot for it). I asked about a notice from the city of Philadelphia. Your team said they didn't handle those. I had to follow up multiple times basically saying "Then why are you my ASO?" before finally getting an acknowledgment that "Oh yes, we do handle those! Thanks for sending!"
Time & Attendance has been a train wreck. It has not gone smoothly for a single team member or manager. It is a very poorly designed product, especially in how notifications and payroll is processed. It was a hiccup at first - it has remained very frustrating. It has resulted in several mishaps for paying folks out (beyond the early uncertainty of entering hours manually). It is unfortunately just so far from intuitive.
I brought on a Global contractor. The entire system allowed me to do so. Worked through time and attendance. Set up their international bank account as the one to receive payments. After multiple failed attempts to pay them, and my outreach directly on multiple attempts, only then was I informed I had to install an entirely separate module to pay them. That wasn't clear, in any way, through the entire onboarding system. I'm sure somewhere deep in the help articles you explain that - but nowhere in the process of bringing them on as a contractor did it say "Hey - you can't pay these people without installing another Rippling module." I don't care if I have to - that's not my problem. It's discovering that problem AFTER my contractor continues to not get paid.
You're missing the point ENTIRELY on the insufficient funds and ultimately not representing my problem here. We switched bank accounts. I removed the old bank account from Rippling. Then, I got an insufficient funds because for some reason you have an entirely separate bank account portal - with no warning in the main portal - for Global Payroll. Another example of very frustrating and poor user experience and design. Please don't pass this off as "not really Rippling's fault" - I went into my account and changed my bank account in the area of the system that deal with bank accounts. Yet somehow, I'm supposed to know and remember that there is a separate portal altogether with no warning?
Additionally, despite updating that account in the separate portal so the payroll could run, I got a notice a few days later that the payroll run failed again. I had to reach out to learn at that point in time that even though I had updated the account... I am now required to send a wire directly rather than re-running that payroll. That wasn't communicated in the original email. I got this notice instead "The payroll debit for your global payroll run, Excess hours run for Jun 01 - Jun 30, failed with the reason: Insufficient Funds. The global payroll run can’t be processed until Rippling has received the required funds. Please log in to your Rippling account to determine your next steps." I had updated the bank account so I would have assumed you'd run the payroll. No. Only on a specific page in the app does it tell me I have to wire it, which is both frustrating and another layer that requires me to do more work and discover the issue only in certain areas.
There are many of us who wish a user friendly system existed - emailing invoices is a simple fix. Instead of prioritizing the strength of the basic user experience, Rippling continues to ask me if I'd like to install one of dozens of new modules and systems. That's your call, but it's been almost two years of asking for "please email me an invoice" instead of having to download it. It's such a basic UX thing that demonstrates where priorities lie.
I would love to work with ya'll to fix it. I have immense respect for you as a founder, truly. My support experience so far doesn't align with that reality.
I am losing faith that I can trust the system, because I keep running into issues. When I raise them I'm told "we'll add that to the feature request, but we can't guarantee it."
After 2 years, I still can't get an invoice emailed to me, so I hope you can understand why I don't think any of these other issues - or whatever else is next - is going to be addressed.
English

.@Rippling continues to underwhelm and disappoint. Constant frustrations where I find product flaws out myself and run into real problems for my team and headaches that require serious work on my side. I'm ready to consider switching especially given how unbelievably expensive its gotten for even a very small team. Somehow, insanely, I still can't just get an invoice automatically sent and the team has no desire to fix it, but the user frustrations extend meaningfully beyond this. I don't see it getting any better.
What's the next best option? I need an ASO and will not use a PEO - don't want to use their benefits.
English

This is nonintuitive but flying can (is frequently) more efficient than driving. @venkvis and I analyzed this for urban aircraft in our @PNASNews report on #evtols pnas.org/doi/abs/10.107…

Paul Graham@paulg
Interesting. The reason flying burns so much fuel is not the fuel efficiency, but the length of the trips.

English

@adcock_brett Which eVTOL players use RR engines, do you know? Perhaps @ssripad1 does?
English

This is likely to bankrupt any eVTOL player banking on Rolls Royce.
I spoke to RR 4yrs ago, they were the only viable engine supplier for eVTOL
I chose to build our own electric engine at Archer
Good lesson for Founders - if there is only 1 supplier and it’s a systemic risk if they go away…never take this bet.
Building the team to do this (30ppl), designing a high performance engine (rotor, stator, gearbox, thermals, power electronics), iterating many versions, and certifying is a 4+ year endeavor
