NEW: It really shouldn't take a @dcfireems battalion chief four times over 90 seconds to get DC911/@OUC_DC to answer the radio. It wasn't busy at the time, just before 1 am. I hope that @CMBrookePinto will demand Director McGaffin look at the video of the operations floor and publicly explain exactly what the fire/EMS dispatch side was doing instead of answering the chief. For at least six years, under two different directors, radio channels have been adandoned for minutes at a time with ZERO explanation and accountability. I have a few dozen recordings to prove this. It's a dangerous practice. When the same thing happened for five minutes on December 2nd, it impacted the care of a person who was in cardiac arrest. If McGaffin can't fix this chronic problem get someone who can. Maybe filing this complaint with @311DCgov will get an answer. Also, the battalion chief was calling to say the notes on the crash they were running indicated it might be in Prince George's County. Why does it take fire and EMS to tell DC911 to take action on the notes that are entered into the computer at the 911 center? Again, how about telling us what the cameras show everyone was doing instead of reading the notes/updates? It's not like they were answering the radio. #FixDC911 @jennygathright @Gelman_Scott @RebeccaTurcoTV @CMLewisGeorgeW4 @mauro_amy @IAFF36

@capitalweather There was definitely lightning around that time and in that area. I saw the flash in the clouds looking northwest from South Arlington.

Huge boom heard in Loudoun Co and surroundings last night ~11p. There were storms in area. Boom probably positive lightning strike from elevated convection. Thunder can sound louder in elevated convection b/c temp inversion beneath storms helps trap channel sound waves, allowing them to travel farther. Positive strike often louder b/c has higher electrical charge & peak current than negative strike, heating air more intensely & creates stronger shock wave, resulting in louder, more explosive thunder. And yes, 401 ka, per mention below, is extremely strong, many times stronger than typical bolt
Alex Thomas@AlxTwt

@capitalweather found the source of the “explosions” everyone is talking about, a 401kA “wild house shaker” lightning bolt near point of rocks. Isn’t that like a historically powerful bolt? Both my PWSs picked it up (in different counties!)

Watch this wild one: What appears to be an unprovoked attack on police officers in their cruiser in Clarendon. This guy just ran right to them and @ArlingtonVaPD say assaulted the officer in the driver's seat. Their partner ran after the guy and that officer was also hurt making the arrest. Here are details from ACPD: The Arlington County Police Department’s Patrol Section is announcing the arrest of a suspect who assaulted officers during an unprovoked attack in the Clarendon area in the early morning hours of Friday, March 20. Quinton Berry, 26, of Alexandria, VA was arrested and charged with Assault on Police (x2), Obstruction of Justice (x2), Attempt to Disarm an Officer and Vehicle Tampering. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility. At approximately 3:07 a.m., two officers were inside their marked police vehicle stopped at the traffic light on Wilson Boulevard at N. Irving Street when the male suspect, who was bloody and agitated, approached, opened the driver’s side door and began assaulting the officer before running away. The officer in the passenger seat then exited the vehicle and initiated a foot pursuit of the suspect. In the area of N. Irving Street and 12th Street N., the suspect ran towards the officer, knocking him to the ground and a struggle ensued, during which the suspect attempted to take control of the officer’s taser. With the assistance of additional arriving officers, the suspect was taken into custody. Both officers sustained minor injuries and were assessed by medics on scene. @ARLnowDOTcom @NFTC_News @matthewyoung31 @HCBright10 #police #copsattacked #arlingtonva

The CBS radio network played a remarkable role in our history & the evolution of broadcast journalism. It produced some of the most iconic reporting & spawned many of the greatest broadcast journalists of the 20th century. The legacy is enormous. Its shuttering, a jarring crosswords.

A second memo from Bari Weiss and Tom Cibrowski says CBS News Radio is shutting down. Here's the memo: Today, we informed our CBS News Radio team and approximately 700 affiliated stations that we will end the service on May 22, 2026. Unfortunately, this decision means that all positions within the CBS News Radio team are being eliminated.  We understand how difficult this news is for our staff and their colleagues, who have worked side by side with us to cover some of the most significant stories of our time. While this was a necessary decision, it was not an easy one.  A shift in radio station programming strategies, coupled with challenging economic realities, has made it impossible to continue the service.  We are sharing this announcement now to fulfill our commitments to our radio partners and affiliates, which require advance notice of the service’s conclusion. For nearly 100 years, CBS News Radio has delivered original reporting to the nation—from Edward R. Murrow’s World War II reports in London to today’s daily White House updates.  Our signature broadcast, “World News Roundup,” remains the longest-running newscast in the country.  CBS News Radio served as the foundation for everything we have built since 1927. The coming weeks will be difficult for the team members who have worked tirelessly at CBS News Radio.  We are committed to supporting these valued colleagues with care and respect as we wind down operations.  They have been critical to our success and remain treasured friends and professionals.  We thank them deeply for their contributions. Thank you all for your dedication and for the compassion you show one another as we move forward. Bari and Tom

As always, @jennygathright, gets the importance of 911. Another excellent article that focuses on the bill ensuring that the @dcfireems medical director is the authority on EMS call-taking and dispatching at DC911/@OUC_DC. The 911 director should not be making medical decisions. That must stop. Pre-hospital patient care is legally and ethically the responsibility of the medical director. Anything less should be considered malpractice by city leaders. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2026/…

@JustTheDrama411 All I can tell you for sure, because I saw some of it on video is that there was some sort of confontation between police and someone else on Wilson Blvd. that ended with an arrest near 12th and Irving. EMS was called. Not sure who was injured.

Important: Testimony before the DC Council yesterday should have you questioning everything you’ve ever heard from DC911/@OUC_DC's director. Former DC Fire & EMS Department Medical Director Dr. Robert P. Holman and former Chief of Staff Amy Mauro lifted the curtain. They showed us how important medical decisions by Dr. Holman were overruled or ignored by the 911 director, resulting in poor performance by DC911. Chief John Donnelly frequently reminds the public that his department runs the third-largest health care agency in the city. What Holman and Mauro show is that running that health care agency is hampered by the 911 director ignoring crucial medical advice and the medical director being unable to verify the quality assurance of EMS calls handled by DC911. Emergency call-taking and dispatching are crucial components of EMS. The medical director must be making these key medical decisions. If you want a 911 center that properly and effectively handles 911 calls, it should be in the hands of the person legally and ethically responsible for pre-hospital patient care. Support the bill submitted by @CMBrookePinto, @Janeese4DC, and @AnitaBondsDC, that puts the medical director fully in charge of EMS. If you like the continued failed coordination between the two agencies, prefer the status quo, and want to protect the turf and egos at OUC, then Director Heather McGaffin’s ridiculous new plan is for you. In her testimony yesterday, McGaffin said she suddenly wants her very own medical director at OUC. One that she can control. Yesterday’s hearing proved that Director McGaffin is really bad at following doctors’ orders. Here is some of the testimony from yesterday, starting with Amy Mauro and Dr. Holman. Then my testimony, followed by the IAFF’s Robert McClintock and David Hoagland. The last video is the questioning by Council member Brooke Pinto, the chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety. #FixDC911 @CMRobertWhiteDC @CMZParker5 @chenderson @charlesallen @ChmnMendelson @BrianneKNadeau @CMFrumin @CMWendellFelder @donicrawford @kpattdc @dclinenews @tomsherwood @NFTC_News @RamirezReports @SegravesNBC4 @ANCCostello @SmithSteiner @johnson4b06 @Evan_Yeats @ANCJonah @MayorBowser @SafeDC @theHillisHome @PoPville @dccrimefacts @abeaujon @SchreiberSara @CapitalJeff @Brightwoodian @ODCA_DC @IAFF36 @dcpoliceunion @jennygathright @tednbc4 @Tenleytown411 @6Min2Live @MattGregoryNews @DCNewsNow @danyagainor @LiannaGoldenTV @KatieLusso @IAFFofficial
