@grizzlybizzly @arindube Going to Hampshire meant I could design a degree that combined cognitive science and economics - this was a huge benefit to me professionally no one else had that background coming out of undergrad.

I see people making jokes about Hampshire college, but if you really think AI is going to push human labor into artisanal task that are hard to automate, you may wish we had more experimental colleges that offered the kind of experience Hampshire College provides.

This kind of development is really depressing to me. All kinds of weird little colleges in the Northeast are closing. Nobody wants to double major in literature and kombucha-making anymore. Everyone just wants to work for Jane Street or an AI lab.

It's very bizarre to me that as I was going through RCIA we had honest discussions and lessons over the history of the Church. It was not taboo to critique the actions of the Church, or even specific Popes. Yet when people critique the Church's current activities it is suddenly sacrilege. Dare callout the facilitating of illegal immigration, the blind eye to the harmful and abusive activities of immigrants in America, or the ridiculous silence on the Left's destructive morality, and suddenly you are a denier of Christ.

At this point it's too late. Autonomous cars are going to take over, legacy public transit systems won't stand a chance and 99% of people will be happier. The problem is that the people who love public transit the most love the idea, the big trains, the cool busses, the art of sim-city-ing the perfect routes, etc. They don't actually care about the real goal, people wanting to get where they want to go quickly and easily. Autonomous cars are going to be amazing for cities, they're better than busses and subways in almost every way, and for any city that doesn't already have a thriving public transit system they'll just completely take over. For cities that already invested a lot in an expensive transit system, they'll mostly end up killing it, expect for some high density corridors for the rush hour commute, etc. And public transit nerd will end up fighting against them because they love the old fashion idea of trains, including the mentally unwell peeing in them, and don't actually care about people just trying to get places safely.

Every transit nerd — the urbanist who tell us over and over how much they love public transportation— has to realize until you stop this sort of crap, and make stopping it your number one goal, you and all your train love are doing nothing but annoying everyone else.

How much does it pay? Genuinely asking. My experience from the US (where I grew up) is people pound the table about skills shortages and when you ask what they’re paying, it’s equivalent to working at Walmart in a no-skill job.

Barksdale AFB was hit by multiple waves of drones over a week’s time. The base houses numerous nuclear weapons.
