We need a culture whereby legitimate complaints are taken seriously and lessons are learnt. For this to be achieved, we must not tolerate the abuse of the system by a minority of irrational and unpleasant people.

This is crippling schools. It’s important that legitimate concerns are heard and responded to, but we cannot allow complaints processes to be weaponised by a minority of parents who have a vendetta against a school. What can we do? 🧵
school data updates@jpembroke

This from today’s SchoolsWeek states that 13% parents have made 2 or more formal complaints to their school in the past year. ~ 9m school children ~ 5m families ~ 700k parents made 2+ complaints. So, as many as 2 million formal complaints per year. 🤯

@michael_merrick Sorry, I’m not intending to be combative. I just think it was widely trailed and completely reasonable. I genuinely think that very few pupils will be moved as a result of this. Those who are need to be protected.

Late to the party with this one I’m sure. But just picking up Friday’s @guardian whilst in France and wondering if @martyneoliver realised quite the extent of the remit…

Perhaps because the SoS visited a school run by a successful academy chain 🤔 Why haven’t the government sorted this out yet 🙄 The level of carping from those who purport to be glad the previous government has been voted out is bizarre. I think the future looks very promising

Sad to say but I agree. Another example of simply taking complaints at face value. ‘Lots of kids dislike new strict school as opposed to old, chaotic one that was horrible to be in but you could do what you like.’ It’s naive to attack a school when the reliability of the claims can’t be fact checked. This stuff makes heads think, ‘Why bother?’

@steverollett @CSTvoice To be clear, I do not think that public institutions, even working together in civic partnership, can solve the complex problem of poverty. This is why @CSTvoice calls on all parties to ensure that urgent action is taken. We need a cross-party strategy to eradicate child poverty.

@SusanDouglas70 Exactly the same from a primary perspective. And our ability to make the right provision for pupils with SEND in mainstream schools is a challenge which, at times, feels impossible.
