Once you become an air conditioning society, you don’t go back. You stop rolling down car windows. Houses become sealed boxes. People move from cooled home to cooled car to cooled office to cooled store. Society goes indoors. Outdoor life becomes diminished. It changes more than temperature.



Growth in domestic air travel in Australia has been just as impressive, with passenger numbers rising from 2m in 1955 to 14m by 1985 and now sitting at over 60m. There have been bumps along the way (eg the 1989 pilots' strike and Ansett's collapse), but Covid hit especially hard.









Bloody hell look at these numbers for regos.
