@libertyscott Wellington just put fares up due to a multimillion dollar fare shortfall, yet spent $5m building contactless debit and credit support - that gets replaced when Snapper is replaced in ~16 months. I wonder what the total cost per tap on and off will be after that 16 months?

@stevebiddle It's either posturing or just pure ignorance. Buses go past my home half-hourly on Sundays with barely a handful of people on them in both directions. I notice the local councillors aren't proposing rates increases to pay for what they want, they want central govt to wear it.

So the cost of providing buses is going up, so lowering fares doesn’t “reduce” costs it passes on higher costs to taxpayers. It’s taking from (future) taxpayers to subsidise PT so central govt takes the hit and councillors claim “credit” for spending other people’s money.

@garysaintdooley That doesn't change the whole point of the story. Why have a poll? Why would anybody who doesn't drive a car that needs 95 use 95? It's not just performance cars that do - pretty close to 100% of European vehicles do.

@libertyscott Nick isn't smart enough to look at the immediate impact on electricity prices in a number of those countries. Public EV charging is dynamic, and has soared in the UK in recent days.

Norway especially as the 7th largest oil exporter, but it is ridiculous to think that light EVs mitigate impacts on aviation, shipping and long distance road freight. NZ would have more EVs if it weren’t so poor per capita.

Countries that have adopted electric vehicles the fastest will suffer the least from oil price spikes caused by the US/Israel attack on Iran. NZ is not one of those, thanks to Luxon’s poor leadership.

@KiwiCraig74 @CeeBee_NZ @NZNationalParty Umm. No they're not. If you'd bothered to follow the news last year you'd know that what you posted is old incorrect information. RUCs for all vehicles are coming in next year which means the removal of all fuel excise taxes as you'll be paying for the use of roads via RUC.
