@jdcmedlock @ernietedeschi Compounding the lack of physicians is the limits in care allowed — we don’t let pharmacists or nurses prescribe and we keep most medicines from being OTC. Lots of medicine could be OTC and it would improve our access to healthcare.

Some of the best lines from Arcadia by Tom Stoppard. Arcadia is my favorite modern play. I’ve seen it three times. Once in St Louis, once in DC, once on Broadway. I'm happy to announce one of the biggest policy victories of this administration. It's been weeks in the making, but it's finally here: ACADEMIC PUBLISHERS CANNOT PAYWALL NIH-FUNDED RESEARCH ANY LONGER.

@antonhowes @lymanstoneky Libraries and librarians have tried for years to get researchers to accept open access publications as quality pubs. The academic community made external pubs a key to tenure…making it impossible to do otherwise.

It’s an alarming symptom, and we should be taking a long hard look at the way academia enables this. It’s not about greedy publishers, but that we insist the world’s knowledge needs to be hosted (and paywalled) by them.
