@LilithDatura Ironically, it’s a problem that will probably solve itself. AI will get better at spotting and filtering manipulation, whether it comes from humans or other AIs.

Why are people are so concerned about AI gaslighting us, when humans do it everyday to each other, it is as common as a greeting. Discernment is something that should be standard, and you can't brute force transparency into a model, because the human's fingerprint is always there

@eigenrobot What if they're not just drowning each other, but also *very vehemently insist* that any help is not just undesired, but also evil?

interesting thing about drowning people who havent slipped into unconsciousness yet is that they'll seek out other swimmers and push them underwater to try to keep themselves afloat occasionally lifeguards have to save entire groups of people engaged in drowning each other

The invention of language unlocked long trips to hunting areas or to other tribes. Without the ability to talk to yourself or your companions, these trips would have been boring to death.

Should gambling addicts sue casinos? Should overeaters sue supermarkets? Obviously not! So why are social media companies being sued? We're entering a world where companies that create something other people actually want are at risk of being sued, banned, or heavily regulated.

@bryan_caplan The brain learns by thinking. And sometimes doing activates thinking way more often than reading does.

@stevenfiorillo Do you seriously think that the AI industry will solve the AI alignment problem before it builds Artificial Superintelligence? If you don't know what the alignment problem is, or how extraordinarily difficult it is, you have no business offering an opinion about this.

This is crazy. Technological innovation ever stops, it only advances. America needs to be the leader in AI. This proposal would not just hurt America economically, it would weaken our national security. We have the lead in the next evolution of technology and we should expand that lead not allow China or anyone else to catch up.
U.S. Senator John Fetterman@SenFettermanPA

The emerging chassis of AI must be built by America. We can put appropriate guardrails in place without handing the win on AI to China. A moratorium is China First.

@RichardMCNgo We do have a significant number of humans who aren't smart enough to successfully plan their own economy. Personally aligned AI will be able to help each user with that, improving the global economy and society as a side effect.

It’s helpful to think of rationalists as High Modernists specifically about the future. No human was smart enough to successfully plan an economy or a society. But if we hypothesize an AI intelligent enough to do so, we can hold on to many of the same technocratic intuitions.

Idea for XAI: 1. Add a "mark this as AI" button 2. Publish AI dataset of highly confirmed AI accounts on Huggingface 3. Make a Kaggle competition for who can detect the AI the cheapest and fastest with minimal false positives

@gfodor @shawmakesmagic It’s not just the missiles. Nobody wants Iran accumulating 100–500k drones either. What level of surveillance would be required to monitor and inspect for something like that?

I predict that no matter what deal Trump makes with Iran it will be widely claimed to be the same deal Obama made. The terms won’t matter, it will be the claim no matter what. And the way you know it will be false is because the claim won’t be that the Obama deal was better.
