Compliant vessels moving Russian oil is the only reason that sanctions are semi-effective.
The oil will move no matter what - do you want western insurers to clean up if there is an accident or do you want to leave it to unproven, nameless ones? @OlaFairchild

@OriginalBraila @plmlindstroem Okeanis, don’t agree with their (lack of) governance. Their support on Russian Oil transport isn’t something I would value. They’re not a better commercial team, just earning more money due to Russia business.

Russia is the child of Iran in this field. If USA sanctions were successful, why empire of Iran are doing STS for more than 4 decades!

We're noticing more obfuscation in Russia with ship-to-ship transfers of oil, however the interesting thing is that the vessels aren't hiding the fact that they are loading oil in Russia but that the oils originate from two specific ports.
A result of very targeted sanctions.

@AndersSjastad @Twaharashid The question is HOW, how can they enforce it? P&I clubs are out of the picture, flag states are out of the picture, Chinese ports allow the vessels to berth. Blocking the vessels passage would likely be seen as an act of war...

@PinheadKing @Edark94 Trump cannot end the EU import ban for RU products, and I doubt EU will open up as soon as the war is over. If anything, Trump can open up for import to the US which adds ton-mile demand

What is the rationale to be overweight commods here? If Trump wins - keep in mind he's 66% odds on now in the market, so this is firming into consensus - he immediately tries (and succeeds?) in making peace w/ Russia (rightly or wrongly) and all that HCC, CPI, oil, vanadium, etc re-enters the global market. Seems pretty scary owning any of that stuff in advance of this no? Happy to be proven wrong/talked around...
