This face means business. It says 'time is running out to meet the 2025 global nutrition targets. Governments must scale up nutrition interventions and accelerate global action on ending malnutrition'. #WHO #EB152

I am pleased to be starting today as Heywood Fellow on special leave from the Civil Service to look at policy making at intersection of national security and economic prosperity - and how it needs to change to stay ahead of geopolitics and global trends.

This is the CEO lunch at #MSC2022. This is reality. This is where power lies. Where some of the most consequential decisions are made. And a woman this week still had the audacity to ask me: “You focus too much on Gender in Diplomacy. That’s not an issue anymore”. It’s an issue.

When I worked in Pompey I pinched myself every day that I got to live in Fort Blockhouse. Such a spectacular place, from the views over the harbour to the little submariners' church up on the walls.

A bittersweet night this evening. Staying at Fort Blockhouse which has the most stunning location at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. It was my first Officers' mess. I lived here for a while. My wedding reception was here. It's empty, run down and is being closed in 3 wks.

@DrKate_King My fave was the morning I was woken up by the building shaking because nobody had warned me the queen's birthday salute would be fired right outside 🤣

The car alarms on the cars on ferries still go off as they pass the breakwater though! Hopefully no fog tonight or else I'll be woken by the fog horns at 4am. #Memories

In the early 1980s, the Dept for Education was making plans on how to store national art treasures in WW3. This is the memo from a VERY grumpy MOD official to the Home Office offering advice and its more diplomatic toned down response. Possibly the greatest memo I've ever read.

End of the summer holidays. A first day in a new role in ⁦@FCDOGovUK 🏛 beckons for me⁩, and a new school for the wee man 📚 Delighted to have this sunset in #Woolwich to herald the new beginnings 📯

Short P.S.: not only can distributed teams, working at a distance from each other, deliver great results, they’re the vital backbone of pretty much any successful, major enterprise. Ripping families apart, by contrast, destroys lives, is unconscionable & serves no useful purpose.

Home Office: it’s OK to separate a child from their parent. They can have the deep, meaningful relationship they need via Skype from the other side of the world. Government ministers: civil servants must be in the office, because personal relationships at a distance don’t work.

A Section 60 order, providing officers with additional search powers, will be in place in the Woolwich Riverside, Woolwich Common and Glyndon wards until 3am. The decision is based on information about increased tensions between groups in the area.

So excited to get my #CovidVaccine and, as ever, astounded at the speed, competence and sheer friendliness of everyone involved in getting it into my arm.
