@Evointegrity Which is why people risk their lives to escape communism to get to free market ("capitalist") economies. And never the other way around.

@OrevaZSN A better option would be to get rid of whinging, envious, lazy regressive dickheadness and leave people to be as happy and wealthy as they choose, with whatever data centres and golf courses and country clubs they choose to invest and build.

"AI data centers only use as much water as a couple of golf courses, and we have hundreds of those!" Great idea, we should get rid of golf courses too. They both consume an incredible amount of land and water while benefiting only the wealthy.

NZ Media World - by Brynn Neilson
Q: How many Maori chiefs signed the English version of Te Tiriti? A: 39 After the signing of Te Tiriti at Waitangi, it was then shipped around New Zealand and over 500 chiefs signed copies. Captain Hobson stated that the Maori Tiriti o Waitangi was the true agreement and that all other copies "... and all signatures that are subsequently obtained are merely testimonials of adherence to the terms of that original document” which is Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Only 39 Maori signed the English version at Waikato Heads on 26 April 1840 and historians propose the English version was probably used because they ran out of copies of the Maori version (Te Trititi).

I find that much anti-communist sentiment boils down to the belief that people are lazy and won’t do good or work hard unless they are suffering. I believe the opposite: I think most people would do amazing things if they weren’t in dire straits constantly.

@JosephMooneyMP @KajensAngel A bit of an awkward name. Should have just gone on some permutation of METI Ministry of Environment, Transport and Infastructure. The distinction between city/urban infrastructure and regional/rural infrastructure could be internal and there is obviously going to be crossover

We’re currently in the process of the biggest planning reforms AND the biggest local government reforms in at least 4 decades. Have just completed the mega-merger of 4 departments (mega-merger because they are big departments). The four departments merged into MCERT (Ministry of Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport) are: 1.Ministry for the Environment (Manatū Mō Te Taiao) 2.Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga) 3.Ministry of Transport (Te Manatū Waka) 4.Local government functions of the Department of Internal Affairs (Te Tari Taiwhenua) - note: not the whole department, just its local government functions Operating budget: $388 million (including time-limited funding), with a non-departmental appropriation of $22.7 billion This is one of the most reformist governments in New Zealand’s history. Not many understand that at this point.

Billionaires don’t wake up at 5am. Teachers, nurses, bus drivers, service workers, etc., wake up at 5am. Billionaires wake up whenever they want because their wealth doesn’t come from their own labor. It comes from the labor of people who will never be billionaires.

@NMowbray23 @stefanolson This will never happen while we continue to tax anyone with a residence in NZ a whopping 39% of their global income, even if they're still primarily resident elsewhere. Difficult to attract global players with that setting. So many much much better options. That are prospering.

As Australia makes it harder for founders to build companies, New Zealand should do the opposite. We need to use our more competitive tax settings and agile economy to attract entrepreneurs, retain talent, and encourage people to build globally ambitious businesses here. Thriving companies create jobs, raise wages, drive innovation, and ultimately lift living standards for everyone. A stronger private sector helps fund the healthcare, education, and infrastructure we all rely on.

Why you feel poor. Why it feels impossible to get ahead. You earn $50 an hour. $100k a year. Solid. Then the state takes its cut. Income tax. GST. Rates. Levies. Fuel tax. Payroll tax. ACC. On and on. Roughly half. Gone. You are left with $50k. Now you go to spend it. But every company you buy from is carrying the same load. Tax piled on tax. Compliance. Bureaucracy. The cost of all that is baked into every price tag. Goods and services cost twice what they should. So your $50k buys $25k of real life. You worked for $100k. You received $25k of purchasing power. Read that again. Yes, the numbers are simplified. They have to be. The shape of the thing is what matters and the shape is right. Now ask the obvious question. How do you fix it? Of course we need a state. Military. Police. Courts. The shared services that hold a country together. A basic safety net for the people who genuinely cannot stand on their own. That is not what we have. We have a state that has grown to twice the size it needs to be. Layered with departments that produce nothing. Programmes that exist to justify the programme before them. Compliance built on compliance. Halve it and you keep everything that matters. The military. The police. The courts. The safety net. All of it. What you lose is the weight. Halve the state and you double the purchasing power of the same person doing the same job. Same hours. Same effort. Twice the life. When people can see a direct line between their work and their life getting better, they work. They build. They take risks. They have kids. They start things. When that line is severed, they check out. That is where we are. That is why productivity is on the floor. It is not laziness. It is not a mystery. It is math.

@actparty Suspect will go down badly like a ton of bricks. It won't win any votes: those people were voting ACT anyway. But will lose votes: likely turned off a whole swag of young family voters who might’ve but now won't. To announce with glee is probably the worst messaging possible.

@liamvincent26 What Maiki did was continually harass and bully with left-wing bias. No one cares about faggotgate. She was gone for me after she stalked the PM through airport security, shouting 'are you resigning' over and over. And smirking manaically. Could not believe that was on TVNZ.

TVNZ political editor Maiki Sherman has resigned. In a statement on X, Sherman acknowledged that she had used “an offensive comment” toward another journalist at a function in the Finance Minister’s office last year, apologised the following morning, and said those apologies were accepted. She also stated that the remark came in response to “deeply personal and inappropriate remarks” directed at her that evening, while accepting that this did not excuse her own conduct. There is a tendency in New Zealand’s media class to immediately separate every controversy into two extremes of either total exoneration or total destruction. There is extraordinary eagerness from some to minimise the seriousness of what occurred because Sherman is viewed as ideologically aligned with the “right” people on the left. Had a conservative public figure, someone like Israel Folau perhaps, used a homophobic slur, even in anger or a heated exchange, there is little doubt the same media would treat it as evidence of deep moral rot rather than a regrettable lapse. Likewise, if a journalist had shouted racial slurs at Sherman herself, nobody can seriously believe the public conversation a year later would revolve around forgiveness, context, or whether the incident should simply have remained private. However, I never called for Sherman to be sacked. I reported on an incident that had already become an open secret within political and media circles and raised legitimate questions about why some stories are aggressively pursued while others are quietly buried. The subsequent collapse of Sherman’s position at TVNZ clearly involved more than this incident alone, including her recent suspension from Parliament following complaints about press gallery conduct. Personally, I do not think every offensive remark or ugly interaction should automatically cost someone their job. Human beings say terrible things in moments of anger, intoxication, humiliation, or stress. But the uncomfortable fact is that New Zealand’s political-media culture helped build the punitive environment now consuming one of its own. For years, journalists and commentators, including Sherman herself at times, have enthusiastically participated in a culture where politicians and public figures were subjected to career-ending moral scrutiny for comments or conduct often less severe than this. The modern media class has normalised the idea that professional ruin is an acceptable and even righteous outcome for personal failings. It is difficult now to object when that same standard is turned inward.

@OrevaZSN Hyperwealth is normally from improving other people's lot. You get wealthy providing something that others perceive valuable. Providing goods, services, cars, spaceships, entertainment, capital. Anything that others calculate more valuable than working to create it themselves.

You can’t have hyperwealth without hyperpoverty. A billionaire exists in one country because child labor exists in another. Stock markets grow by looting countries raw. That’s the reality of capitalism: the misanthropic greed of the rich is fed by devastating the poor.
