Amazon just confirmed 16,000 layoffs but sources inside are telling me the real story is so much worse Word from three different VPs: the 16K number is just "Phase One" - internal docs show another 14,000 cuts planned for Q2 A director in AWS walked me through their new "efficiency matrix" - entire teams being replaced by 2-3 senior engineers running Claude Sonnet workflows The Alexa division got completely hollowed out. 847 engineers two months ago. 23 remaining after this week. All hardware development moved to a Bangalore team of 31 contractors with Cursor access Here's the sick part: they're making the outgoing engineers document their entire decision-making process into "knowledge transfer sessions" that are being recorded and fed directly into training datasets One L7 told me he spent his final two weeks creating detailed prompt libraries and workflow documentation. Thought he was being helpful for the transition Turns out he was literally training the AI agent that replaced his entire org The contractors offshore are using his exact prompts and shipping features 40% faster than his old team of 12 Americans ever did Internal Slack shows leadership celebrating "operational excellence" while badges get deactivated in real-time They're calling it "right-sizing for the AI era" in the all-hands But the P&L sheets I'm seeing show $280M in salary savings this quarter alone The knowledge extraction is complete If you're still at Amazon and haven't started job hunting, you're already dead

PREDICTION - Amazon will ban all Gen-AI assisted code changes in the coming weeks! More companies will follow..... Be warned - your legacy code base, tech debt and bugs will sky-rocket if you continue to BLINDLY embrace AI

Last day at xAI. xAI's mission is push humanity up the Kardashev tech tree. Grateful to have helped cofound at the start. And enormous thanks to @elonmusk for bringing us together on this incredible journey. So proud of what the xAI team has done and will continue to stay close as a friend of the team. Thank you all for the grind together. The people and camaraderie are the real treasures at this place. We are heading to an age of 100x productivity with the right tools. Recursive self improvement loops likely go live in the next 12mo. It’s time to recalibrate my gradient on the big picture. 2026 is gonna be insane and likely the busiest (and most consequential) year for the future of our species.

I resigned from xAI today. This company - and the family we became - will stay with me forever. I will deeply miss the people, the warrooms, and all those battles we have fought together. It's time for my next chapter. It is an era with full possibilities: a small team armed with AIs can move mountains and redefine what's possible. Thank you to the entire xAI family. Onward. 🚀 And to Elon @elonmusk - thank you for believing in the mission and for the ride of a lifetime.

Took my kids to the Christmas market in Hamburg today First thing I did was walk them around the perimeter I explained each concrete barrier, each bollard and armed guard My daughter asked why there are so many policemen at a Christmas market "Honey, Germany is a welcoming country, and welcoming countries need protection from people they welcome" She nodded and asked "but why the lights are so dark?" I explained Christmas lights are reduced by 80% this year to hit EU carbon neutrality targets "Daddy, but the tree is also very small, is there a bigger one somewhere?" What an annoying kid. I remained calm though "Baby, that's sustainable forestry. The tree is just the right size" My wife said quietly that maybe we could visit a market in Switzerland next year I clenched my fist and told her that Switzerland isn't in the EU, their lights are against the Paris Climate Agreement, and she should think before she speaks I love my family but it’s not easy to stay composed when they try to ignore core European values

@bingxu_ @askerlee Will we have the challenge of “the last mile” problem? Because we're running out of human experts that can beat SOTA models, and there may only a rare few such as someone who solved the Poincaré Conjecture and he wouldn't be working on RLHF to improve the LLMs 😆

@askerlee IMO, GPT-5-High is AGI-level if used correctly. It is smarter than 99% of the individuals we see daily. ASI will not make much difference to common people in the short term, then it is a peak.

When the system is broken, when wealth can buy more than it should be able to, when power is abused, people grow sick and tired of the abusers and naturally they will celebrate the death of any important figures, which represent such abuse. BlackRock is known and feared throughout the world, for its darkness, for being untouchable, in fact for being the worst cartel this planet has, so yes, killing important people of their structure can feel like justice served, even if the corrupted legal framework, which they have shaped and exploited as well, doesn't allow it to be outright called justice...

@bingxu_ Once AI can train itself as its intelligence outpaces that of humans, and can self teach and self heal, we will undoubtedly need UBI.

@Zenul_Abidin @bindureddy The earlier days of data labeling was generalists. Those are now out of jobs. Once you've trained the models, we will run out of humans who can train AI and it'll train itself… we will need UBI

@bindureddy Feels like a temporary phase. Once synthetic data + self-play get cleaner, the demand for human labels will drop fast.

The hottest job today - Labeling data for the AI to train on! Every AI lab is hiring PhDs to feed the LLMS more high-quality data. The only way to squeeze more performance from LLMs is to squeeze more high-quality data from humans 🤷

Is Twitter full of humans or bots? I bet we have over 70% humans on here... bots generally don't get much engagement, so it doesn't matter that much Comment on this post if you are human. AI Bots. Please don't comment on this 🤣🤣

The image shows the Death Star from Star Wars, a planet-destroying space station. Sam Altman likely uses it metaphorically to tease OpenAI's upcoming GPT-5 as a massively powerful AI model that could dominate competitors, like Google's Gemini 3.0. "That's no moon..." implies it's far more than it seems.

@vkhosla @neuralink If only we could shrink the glasses into contact lenses, though that would still require speech. Only if there is an external device pick up the brain waves to read human thoughts.

It feels to me that we are on trajectory to have keyboards & speech input go away before 2030? Any contrarians agree? And it won't be @neuralink or anything invasive or anything intrusive in public places like speech! And it might be multi-modal like thought?

@Detffhted @karpathy @Yuchenj_UW Karpathy's libertarian side believes in free choice—no government nannying on what we eat. But seeing that junk food sludge everywhere makes him rage, questioning if maybe some restrictions aren't so bad. It's the clash between ideals and reality's processed poison.

This is what the ideal grocery store looks like. Minimally processed (NOVA Group 1) food only (no "edible food-like substances"), organic, local, fresh. Food should not be more complex than this, yet I don't believe this exists.
