30 of the 70 companies in our last @speedrun batch had founders born outside the US and if we keep doing our job – and we will – that number is only going up: * founders building products + teams internationally * builders stuck in an H-1B job ready to accelerate their slope * students here on F-1 who are ready to take a shot at their startup idea Speedrun Global Founders is our answer >> our end-to-end approach to guiding founders through visas, customs, housing, banking, and building local SF community, while enabling founders from all over the globe to participate in Speedrun we also have the coolest hat in venture - maybe thats a lame flex, but i honestly challenge you to show me better vc drip you might catch a few of our founders wearing them today. come through Global Founders and I’ll bring you one 🫡 -apply below my friends-

[New] from a16z @speedrun: Come for the Agent, Stay for the Network there's a quiet pattern hiding inside the most defensible vertical AI startups right now: the agent is the wedge the network is the moat. here's what I mean: an HVAC tech needs a part today. >>Traditionally: hours to investigate, 5 calls, emailing for quotes, waiting days, and comparing PDF catalogues by hand >>Now: an AI procurement agent identifies the exact SKU, autonomously contacts suppliers, negotiates price, and orders - in minutes but - the network forming is the real differentiator: when that agent is operating across thousands of buyers, the system starts seeing real transaction prices - not list prices > It can tell you you're paying 18% above market > It can bundle demand across forty facilities and negotiate bulk pricing = Suppliers start competing to be plugged into the agentic network these AI procurement agents can become networked, sticky platforms when an industry has some combo of: + Fragmented supply and demand + Offline suppliers + Opaque yet elastic pricing + Frequent purchases + Different SKUs; or + a commoditized product or services in the past, suppliers thrived off of the offline nature of these markets with an agentic platform, the demand side can be aggregated and the power balance flipped you can start to become the interface buyers default to, the channel suppliers need to be on, and the owner of the richest pricing dataset in the industry by unlocking an efficient marketplace, you can charge on a % of revenue basis vs token or seat basis. we’re seeing this trend emerge across several SR006 @speedrun companies including Heavi for truck repair shops and Vereda for farmers few examples of industries ripe for AI procurement agents include: -- Freight and logistics -- Agricultural inputs -- Field services -- Food service procurement -- Construction subcontracting -- Industrial MRO -- Healthcare staffing -- And more if this sounds like something you're interested in, apply to speedrun now

Need more reasons to apply for @speedrun 007? How about access to enterprise buyers and hands-on sales training? Sound too good to be true? It's not.

this is what I love most about a16z @speedrun: These founders - in a room, building alongside each other: making intros debugging pricing swapping notes on models running mock pitches together re-writing each other's cold emails at 11pm the company you start is yours. the journey can be lonely It doesn't have to be done alone this was @kenanhsaleh and my post demo day SR006 final dinner with our cohort at my house last week

ok - dropping big dates/news for a16z speedrun: - starting TODAY, founders can apply for the 2026 program that runs July 27 to Oct 11 in SF here's the link: speedrun007.a16z.com/ac - we will be investing up to $1M and funding 70+ companies over the next few weeks - But there's also $5M in credits/tokens/etc from AWS/GCP/Open AI/Azure/NVIDIA/Deel/Stripe/etc. You'll also work with our amazing operating team (GTM, talent, brand, people, and more), and join our community of elite founders - we offer a Global Founders Program for international founders, to help with visas, banking support, relo recommendations - yes you can be solo (but better if you're further along, and have built a team). No you don't have to have an idea yet. Yes you have to know how to build (even if you're not technical) - Also, in other news: speedun is officially moving full-time to SF. (prev it alternated SF/LA) this is for all the obv reasons - we've continued to have an insane lineup of speakers, including the founders of Carta / DoorDash / Twilio / Figma / Zynga / Airtable / Twitch / and of course, lunch/dinners with Marc/Ben alongside a16z team - and much more - the deadline for applying is May 17!

11 years ago I asked a dozen VCs how to get in One told me three ways 1. Go to an Ivy League school (went to UMiami) 2. Have a successful exit (first startup failed) 3. Work at a top tier high growth startup (didn’t do) I asked him for a 4th He said “make yourself invaluable before you have the job” For the next 4 months I worked 10-12 hours a day to accomplish that I sourced the top deals in Boston for free and sent them to VCs in New York I read every book, equity research report, funding announcement and S-1 I could get my hands on (podcasts weren’t big then) I wrote investment theses and shared market and competitive landscape breakdowns with VCs I met I put together lists of potential hired and customer intros I could make for each VCs portfolio And I drove uber at night to make money The truth is that this job has no normal path. The only thing that stands out amongst those in my cohort who are still in the game is we’re obsessed with it.

"So You Want to be a VC" Im enjoying this week in Boston visiting students promoting my new book - Runnin Down a Dream. Not surprisingly, many ask me about trying to break into venture capital. I wrote a letter answering this question 15 years ago. I would send it out when people inquired. I'm making it public for the first time - with zero modifications. 1) I think it holds up well 2) make sure and read my new book also 3) I probably can't help with followups (as suggested in the letter) Hope you find it useful. Good luck!

When was the last time you actually stopped to think about where your food comes from? I’m not talking about your smoothie selfie at Erewhon. Between the fisherman and your sushi… the rancher and your ribeye… There’s a trillion-dollar industry wedged deep in the food supply chain, held together by a back office of warriors. It runs on: • Spreadsheets with emotional baggage • ERPs old enough to have a midlife crisis • People screaming at their inboxes We raised $5.8M to unf*ck that. We built Anchr. More to come.

We raised $6.5m to build humanity’s platform for uploaded consciousness. Sentience creates one unique model for every person — a digital twin of your mind — to remember everything, recall what matters, and operate as you. I started this company because I am worried. For the first time, we have intelligence that will fully replace humans across a range of domains within a few years. For those outside of the tech echo chamber, this is a period wrought with confusion and uncertainty about what actually matters anymore. I’ve had numerous conversations with people who aren’t sure if they have any value as a unique human being, or whether their own thinking matters. While Silicon Valley goes full speed ahead towards AGI, many people are left wondering what place they have in this AI future. If I can communicate one thing to everyone out there with these doubts, it would be this: your unique knowledge, memories, and who you are still matter. In fact, these things matter now more than ever. The problem is that the course of AI is heading towards a world where all of us will outsource our thinking to the same one-size-fits-all AI models. This is not a hypothetical future. If 100,000 people ask a question to ChatGPT, every single person gets the same answer. You can see the cost of uniform AI models across writing, social media, and even academic papers. This uniformity is more than annoying – it’s dangerous. There’s a genuine chance that we lose the texture and vibrancy that makes us unique as a species. I founded The Sentience Company to arm real humans against this dystopian outcome. First, your Sentience lets you collect everything that holds context from your life, learning from what you do across every platform – starting on desktop and mobile. Never forget a detail again. Second, your Sentience becomes the best recall engine for everything in your life. Never copy/paste context or search across 50 chrome tabs again. Finally, your Sentience becomes the full simulation of you – an AI model that thinks and acts like you, to scale and share your unique ideas and interact with others. Your Sentience emulates more than your context. It understands your values, emotions, drive, and goals. We’re creating a world where you can leverage your own Sentience model alongside the models of your colleagues and friends to jam on ideas and access their knowledge 24/7. We’re not building Sentience to scale AGI and replace more human thinking. We’re building Sentience to scale you. We’re proud that many amazing humans are supporting our mission. Our round was led by @kevinzhang (@BainCapVC), with participation from @ditzikow, @adityaag, @evantana, @AgrawalArian, @gopalkraman, @JPBrebner (@southpkcommons), @rex_woodbury, @tmrohan, @soleio, @anniecase1, and many more.
