the way we talk about NFL players shows the poverty of class analysis in the US. NFL players are paid so much bc they only "work" an average ~3 years. the retirement plan only lasts 5. football is incredibly taxing on the body, many can't work regular jobs beyond retirement

i don't like football for any number of reasons but the players are not your enemy. Jerry Jones is your enemy. the bizarro hereditary ownership of teams is your enemy. Roger Goodell is your enemy. the players are workers, even if they are high profile workers.

I’m sympathetic to the argument that burning the American flag is protected speech, but right now we are putting people in prison for spinning their tires over the Pride flag, so it might be a good idea to have the debate about which symbols are sacred in America today
