I think some of the birthrate decline can be attributed to two forces happening everywhere: increasing complexity, and decreasing hardship. Life is too complex and too 'good.' I'll try to explain

I just read this article and all I could think was... wait. You didn't already do this? You were serializing everything? Of course they were. Software engineers serialize high-latency API calls. Same thing. It's the default.

@gordonbrander I love this 2006 piece on how employer-sponsored apprenticeships may work differently and less well for women than school-based opportunities due to the turns of life.

@BWalkerTTAGGG Atmospheric CO2 concentration is around 419 ppm so opening a window will NOT do it. That's what's non-trivial about this whole thing.
Good point about the submarine CO2 level though.

The older I get the more certain I am that EVERY difficult moral or philosophical question boils down to the sorites paradox. Everyone knows what AGI is, but nobody can draw a bright line between AGI and non-AGI because no such thing exists for any continuous measure.

People are making wild claims about AGI and superintelligence and think it will make them rich. I bet no one has any idea what these terms mean. Not even the people who invented them I am willing to pay $100 to anyone who defines one or both terms in the comments and gets 100 likes on their comment.

I was waiting in Harpers Ferry station a few wk ago & a local birdwatcher was lamenting underpass + collapsed fence condition to the ranger. It might also benefit by TLC from MARC if able by 3 by responsibility w US NPS&CSX🌳
