I think some of the birthrate decline can be attributed to two forces happening everywhere: increasing complexity, and decreasing hardship. Life is too complex and too 'good.' I'll try to explain

Reflecting back on @brightball pointless story points piece about Product Development Flow (2009) now considering trying to implement bits of the book’s queue wisdom in Factorio game cc: @patio11

I just read this article and all I could think was... wait. You didn't already do this? You were serializing everything? Of course they were. Software engineers serialize high-latency API calls. Same thing. It's the default.

This is everything. In 2006, students from Xavier High School in NYC sent Kurt Vonnegut five letters asking the writer to visit their class. What he wrote back is one of the best things ever:

@BWalkerTTAGGG Atmospheric CO2 concentration is around 419 ppm so opening a window will NOT do it. That's what's non-trivial about this whole thing. Good point about the submarine CO2 level though.

I want to get a CO2 scrubber for my office so that I can lower the CO2 concentration to 280 ppm (“why stop at eating paleo when you can breathe paleo?”) and see if it helps me think better. Any product pointers?

A lot has happened since the launch of the first HOT Tasking Manager in 2011... Today, we celebrate our first 500,000 mappers on the platform, almost the same as the population of Cape Verde! 😮 🎉 Have you mapped today? buff.ly/4e0cEZQ

BREAKING: The PMC COVID Forecasting Model officially sunsets Biobot. Biobot has not reported public data in 3 weeks, during the height of the surge. They will be downgraded to 0% weight in Monday's case estimation model. CDC data will now account for 100% of case estimation.

The older I get the more certain I am that EVERY difficult moral or philosophical question boils down to the sorites paradox. Everyone knows what AGI is, but nobody can draw a bright line between AGI and non-AGI because no such thing exists for any continuous measure. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorites_p…
Bindu Reddy@bindureddy

People are making wild claims about AGI and superintelligence and think it will make them rich. I bet no one has any idea what these terms mean. Not even the people who invented them I am willing to pay $100 to anyone who defines one or both terms in the comments and gets 100 likes on their comment.

@JoeDavis522 @mvs202 @mtamaryland @MDOTMTAHolly Thanks Joe, when I pass Garrett Park, looks great now! I was waiting in Harpers Ferry station a few wk ago & a local birdwatcher was lamenting underpass + collapsed fence condition to the ranger. It might also benefit by TLC from MARC if able by 3 by responsibility w US NPS&CSX🌳

Lead poisoning hurts kids’ cognitive development. Lead poisoning is also widespread across many low & middle income countries. However, we don’t know each local source. We can learn, discover & eradicate Like by protecting turmeric in 🇧🇩

What happens when a government decides that their banking sector needs proper competition, and mandate a new payment method that is: 1. Instant (unlike bank transfers) 2. Free for consumers, very very cheap for merchants (unlike credit cards) What Brazil did with Pix:
Github Copilot Fallback@geovanisouza92

@PartyArbeiter @GergelyOrosz @zoka64620384 As a matter of fact, today, 43% of financial transactions are made with Pix
