I lived and worked in this area for a few years as a brown man. There’s definitely a lot of rebel flags, but they seem to be more about aesthetics than racism. I once saw a man in a diner with a rebel flag shirt reading “born of rebel blood,” but with a Black wife and a mixed-face family.
I will say this, if you’re not Black or White, your social circle will be kind of limited. Sadly this region lacks the cosmopolitanism and large diaspora communities we see on the West Coast. You also see fewer mixed-race couples compared to northern and western cities.

I had been to 20 countries by the time I was 10, literally nothing special about it after the first few. Travelling in Europe is also the most boring thing possible, most of the countries are small carbon copies
