@theadaptable1 For a short statement, I think that's a great way to put it, and in part why I thought these two book projects were complimentary.

Most problems are not solved by adding more. They are solved by taking something away. But our brains default in the opposite direction. Progress often starts with removal.

Universal truths to save America: - housing prices are too high, we need to build more - gerrymandering is lame no matter who does it - 80% of people support and vote for candidates on both sides. - 100% of media is created by people who only vote for one side. - America actually is the most generous country on earth. - fraud is bad and should be stopped, no matter who stops it. - everyone needs to save more. Stop counting on pensions and social security. - crime is bad and if you do crime you need to go through jail. - doing drugs outside isn’t your right. Drugs are illegal and should be treated as such. - it needs to be easier and cheaper to have kids if we want more kids. That means paid time off and the gov pays for child birth. - we can’t stop technology to save jobs. If something is faster, safer, and cheaper, we need to embrace it. - the world changed. College hasn’t. Adapt or die, we need to stop pushing bad degrees on good kids. - local politics should solve local issues. I don want my mayor going to fucking Ghana while the city burns down. - health insurance does in fact suck ass. No one outside of the insurance industry defends it. Does need to go. - at the same time, America is right. Drs should earn a fuck ton of money. I want the Dr fixing my son’s leg to be a millionaire. - starting businesses is the greatest good on earth. New things born from nothing that people want. - young people and laborers need a break. We should give more tax breaks to people starting out and less to people who have had 40 years to figure their shit out. — The TLDR is: Build more houses, give young people more breaks, jail criminals and drug addicts, care about your neighborhood, don’t fight about shit you don’t control, you aren’t on the good side, you are just on a side. And start a damn business

LIVE TRIAL UPDATE: Elon Musk says SpaceX is dedicated to the survival of the human race and is “life insurance for life as we know it.” “Life just can’t be about solving one miserable problem after another,” he said. “There have to be reasons to be excited and inspired about the future.”

“There have to be reasons to be excited and inspired about the future” Love him or hate him, but you have to respect Elon and his drive. Why wouldn’t anyone want to see humans continue to achieve the impossible?

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@waitbutwhy Press red, and you guarantee your survival while not affecting the survival of anyone else (since 1 button press won’t meaningfully impact the outcome of 8 billion button presses). Press blue, and you gamble your life for nothing but a momentary feeling of moral superiority.

New newsletter: HOW THE 2020s BROKE OUR BRAINS It's the Tragic Twenties, and Americans can't stop feeling like hot garbage. - The UMich consumer sentiment survey is now at its lowest rate on record - The Fed's job satisfaction survey is at its lowest rate on record - Both the General Social Survey and the World Happiness Survey have found that happiness in the US plunged in 2020 and has since been mired at levels significantly below previous decades You shouldn't assume that your favorite pet issue is the main culprit here. Conservatives might point to cultural changes, like the decline of marriage and religiosity, but those have been going on for decades. The left might reach for wage inequality, but that has actually narrowed in the last six years. This can't even primarily be about phones, since what's most clear in the data set is something that changed this decade, not last decade. I spent a long time reading, talking to people, and doing my own research, and I think the most parsimonious explanation I can provide is this: The Pandemic Never Ended. This thesis has three parts. TPNE 1: The biological antagonist of COVID gave way to the economic antagonist of inflation, and after decades of coming to rely on lowflation and meager wage growth for low-income workers, price levels have increased 3x faster this decade than in the previous 40 years, and economists simply have to accept that inflation makes people angrier than it used to. This isn't even a strictly American phenomenon. Around the world, incumbents have lost power faster than any post-WWII period, as affordability concerns bludgeon their electorate. The few countries where happiness levels have increased in the western world in the last 6 years have had some of the lowest levels of inflation. TPNE 2: Institutions down, individualism up: The 2020s have seen trust plummet for practically every institution, along with growing distrust in strangers, and rising alone time and at-home time. At best, community offers a buffer in times of crisis. But today, the absence of community—and the triumph of a tech-enabled, hyper-introverted atomism—makes every crisis feel more existential and unsolvable. And that's a problem bc... TPNE 3: The 2020s have been the permacrisis crisis decade. It's really been one fucking thing after another, hasn't it? Pandemic, inflation, interest rates, Ukraine, Gaza, Iran, AI. Meanwhile, phones give us constant contact with both the scary news cycle and the panic-inducing fears and anxieties of the commentariat. Inflation makes today's life feel harder to live. The news cycle makes tomorrow's world scarier to live through. And the post-pandemic decline of institutions and acceleration of toxic individualism weakens our socio-emotional immune system to deal with all of it. TLDR: The pandemic never ended, and it's left us with the Tragic Twenties.

Bitcoin now at $78,826.50. Those of you in the old school who believe this is a bubble simply have not understood the new mathematics of the Blockchain, or you did not cared enough to try. Bubbles are mathematically impossible in this new paradigm. So are corrections and all else

It’s forgotten now in the echoes of history, but one thing that helped consolidate the airline industry in the early 90s was the Gulf War shooting up fuel prices and forcing airlines into bankruptcy or even liquidation. nbcnews.com/id/wbna3073561

NEW: Spirit Airlines could liquidate and shut down as soon as this week, @lesliejosephs of @CNBC reports, citing “people familiar with the matter.” Latest round of chatter about a deeply troubled airline … but rising fuel prices could be its death knell. cnbc.com/amp/2026/04/15…

A federal jury just found Live Nation has operated as a monopoly and broken antitrust rules. Potential remedy is divesture of Ticketmaster (argument is Live Nation forces venues to use its ticketing service or else lose concert tours). Ticketing is cash cow: while only 12% of sales ($3B of $25.2B), it is 37% of operating profits ($1.1B) in 2025. Conversely, the concert division — which is world’s largest promoter and producer of live events (booking, marketing, logistics etc.) — does 83% revenue ($20.9B) but operating margin is tiny at 3% ($687m). The company dominates right now. In 2025, it put on 55,000 events and sold 646 million tickets (Ticketmaster sold 10x more than #2 service AEG). Live Nation will try to fight the breakup but industry will almost certainly end up more free-flowing. Fewer exclusive events and concert venues can shop other ticketing services. Just chill on the fees, dude. *** NYT on court case: nytimes.com/2026/04/15/art… Sherwood on business model: sherwood.news/business/the-d…

Aging is arguably the root cause of most major diseases. Our cells lose function as we age, allowing various conditions to manifest, which is why most major diseases correlate with age. Yes, it is more complex than this, but this is a major component. @newlimit is working on treating a root cause of disease (aging) using epigenetic reprogramming.

“Adapt or die” This concept applies to everything in life but for some reason creatives think it doesn’t apply to them. You can be nostalgic about “the old days” but AI creative tools are only going to get better - and better fast. The tide doesn’t care if you can’t swim.
techbimbo@jameygannon

”You're not gonna win, there's no fighting AI” Diplo's take on AI is spot on, and he's ahead of 99% of creatives, across all disciplines > it's inevitable, and you're dumb if you don't use it > it's a tool, just like many other things before it > taste and references matter A LOT amazing interview by @DanielSWall

I was driving home from the store today and imagining life remapped to a single day. Both my parents are gone now and I've been reflecting more on mortality. It feels so unreal and intangible. It's 4:30 pm for me, I still have time left but it's finite. It all goes by so fast
