You can only think that Chalmers and Albanese have gone insane. Winding back negative gearing increases rents, with no discernible impact on house prices. Cutting the capital gains tax concession leaves the family home CGT free, an incentive for investment to flood that way. There’s no benefit at all for young home buyers. These economic vandals are just making that up.

It’s time we admit that our political system has become an echo chamber for the elite. Most of these politicians live for the job and the power, totally insulated from the struggles of the families they claim to represent. Whether you vote Labor, Liberal, Green, or National, you’re often just getting a different flavor of the same careerist bubble. We are paying the price for a leadership class that has lost its soul.
