Look at it another way: my son loves planes; he has a great you tube channel. EVERY single time we fly he records the take off. EVERY TIME. That's what we all wanted to see. The take off and travel into space. Now if they had an iPhone and did this that would be the first thing everyone would record, especially an astronaut, and want to see.

You can take an iPhone anywhere but will it malfunction is the question. Its an unknown which is a risk but a possibility especially given the van allen belts. I made reference to the Van Allen Belts to detail that many conditions are harsh in space. In NASA's own words "The Van Allen belts consist of high-energy charged particles (electrons and protons) trapped by Earth's magnetic field, creating significant radiation hazards to spacecraft. These particles cause malfunctions, permanent damage to electronic components via deep dielectric charging, and component failure, necessitating robust shielding". 3. In an aircraft a fire from a device has a crew to deal with and if serious plan can land in an emergency, which is not possible in space. Right?

You missed the fact that the risk v benefit of these drugs was not sufficient for ANYONE to take them at that time (or now).
