@witte_sergei I watched a Video where a professor argued that the armor is fine since it’s a story that’s told from Homers time POV. I think this is probably what Nolan’s thought was.

We’re all probably tired of armor-posting but it’s pretty funny that people are insisting there’s no way to make Bronze-Age appropriate armor look good on screen when Troy pulled it off just fine 20 years ago.

@Porkchop_EXP Of course, but in the case of restaurants the meat is low quality whether we like it or not. So I’d argue to at least pick something tasty.

Other things about how retarded Germany is I learned today (from a restaurateur’s rant newsletter): - In Munich several thousand freshly grilled chickens were recently destroyed at Oktoberfest due to a bomb threat; they could have been given away to the needy or to food banks, but the free distribution of unspoiled food is considered a "non-monetary benefit" and is therefore subject to taxation. Thus, even giving away food is treated by the tax authorities as if it were a taxable sale, for which sales tax is due. - The Greens want to require the restaurant industry to indicate the farming method used for the meat on their menus, but since imported meat from other EU countries remains exempt from the labeling requirement, it will obviously lead to restaurants buying foreign meat from abroad, with lower animal welfare standards than Germany.

@hubertlepicki Today I found out a German court just ruled “before and after” pictures for plastic surgery are not allowed in Germany (= advertisement of plastic surgery). These people just hate freedom.

@EndTribalism What always gets lost in the discussion about Big Pharma are the rent seekers. Just think about the hordes of people that work in the bureaucratic apparatus. They add nothing of value, yet they get rich from participating. The same problem applies to academia and student loans.

Joe Rogan and Russell Crowe talk about how America’s healthcare system is broken. Crowe: “That's one of the things that does trouble me greatly for this country.” “Something has perverted here, where the drug that I can buy for $50 for a month supply in Australia is $2,500 for a month here.” Rogan: “Everybody's got their hands tied behind their back… including the media.” “The amount of money they spend on advertising for the media that really just serves the purpose of now the media can't criticize the pharmaceutical drug companies.” Crowe: “600,000+ people in this country in the next 12 months will go bankrupt because of their medical bills.” “How many people will go bankrupt in Australia because of their medical bills in the next 12 months?” “Zero.” Rogan: “It's one of the biggest problems we have.” “The idea that you would let that happen and not do anything about it because you're bought and paid for by these enormous companies is kind of insane.” “They're trying to do something about that and RFK Jr. is fighting an uphill battle.”

@simonseverino @celestialbe1ng This is one of the areas where every dentist I know agrees that trying for a cure is not really worth it. You get the splint and prevent the damage. It’s really not worth the time and the unavoidable damage to the teeth while trying.

@simonseverino @celestialbe1ng Unfortunately there is no known cure. Of course you can try the magnesium, for some, forms of therapy work. However nothing works reliably for everyone, most ideas of cure don’t work at all. In the meantime the splint is the only thing that prevents the damage.

@simonseverino @celestialbe1ng Absolutely. Of course it doesn’t prevent the grinding, but it prevents the teeth from taking damage which is enough. Plus for many people I know it prevents snoring to some degree.

@ohbother2023 @BakerBarbell @MarkHumes_Art I’d argue that a real Neapolitan Pizza qualifies as a whole Food. Pair it with an huge salad and is it filling, rewarding and satisfying. Of course what gets passed around as pizza almost everywhere isn’t in this category.

@BakerBarbell @MarkHumes_Art "Whole foods only" is also a "mechanism" that works for some people. Pizza isn't whole so they'd have to find something else to eat. Is it that restrictive to stick to a fruits vegetable meat fish seafood diet?

The problem with “just eat real food” is it’s almost always recommended by skinny guys with low appetites and don’t have high food drive. They can’t comprehend how much some guys can and will eat without some restrictions on portion sizes, calorie counting, etc. These types of guys eat 3-4 slices of pizza and are full. They can’t comprehend guys that can put down a large pizza and a basket of wings in a single sitting and feel just fine afterward. I’m not arguing against “real food.” And it is harder to go over on calories this way. But it’s not a solution for everyone. Still have to have some mechanism in place to exercise caloric restriction or they can and will go over budget and not lose weight.

@lukeburgis The latter is my central counter to overpopulation arguments against having children. The world doesn’t have too much people, it has to many retards. It can be your job to change this. If you think you aren’t able to do this fine but also admit it, don’t deny your agency.

When you give birth to a child, you can treat the next 20 years like any other. You wake up each day and face it, get your child into the best school in a given year, think in 1-4 year increments, like an investor diversifying a portfolio, staying basically agnostic to world history. Or you can have a 20-year thesis on where the world is heading. You and your spouse can actually develop a worldview together and consider how the country or world you live in is changing, and the actual decisions you must make to position yourselves and your child to develop into mature, healthy adults, fully alive: physically, emotionally, spiritually. In other words, you can become agents. I suggest the latter.

@homegymcoop While I agree with the barbell, I think we also should always make a case for the bike. Maybe amusing from an american perspective, but from a holistic standpoint the bike allows for the perfect type of transport/exercise.

@RokoMijic It’s obviously a lack in understanding of n-th order effect. Yes, whether you have 7 billion or 3 billion people on the planet doesn’t really matter. What matters is the transition period. Our current and probably any socio-economic system can’t bear a transition period.

This is incorrect. A shrinking population is terrible. Everything works better when there are more people and when people are younger. Shrinking populations have a permanent surplus of old people. That means everyone is constantly poor because they're overtaxed to pay for the geriatrics. The smaller a nation gets, the weaker it gets because it lacks economies of scale and has to rely on foreign imports and foreign technology. You absolutely do not want a shrinking nation. But immigration is even worse.
The Golden One@TheGloriousLion

Fun fact: a decreasing population is not necessarily a bad thing. We do not need a continously growing population.

@ChrisCorney1 Without pushing in any conspiracy theories: It was very foreseeable that German auto industry will go belly up. It’s a ship this has been sinking from decades of self indulgent mismanagement, no innovation, political idiocy and recently much stronger competition.

I wish I had more German friends here. I would genuinely love to hear from any Germans as to why they are letting their mighty auto industry be destroyed to further US geopolitical interests. I get the American game, but why are Germans going along with it?
Arnaud Bertrand@RnaudBertrand

I don't think Europeans quite realize the sheer madness of what's happening here: not only is Europe destroying one of its flagship tech companies (Nexperia) but also stopping its entire auto industry, all to comply with extraterritorial American legislation targeting China.

Ignorance, the root and stem of all evil
"The Budapest summit was proposed by the American side, but I said that such meetings need to be well prepared. It would be a mistake for me and for Trump to leave this meeting without results. Trump fully agreed and said that his administration would prepare the summit. Now I see that the US President is talking about postponing the meeting." – Putin

@PaulSkallas While I absolutely agree with your main point, I disagree with the part about the Ukraine war. Of course, in a more abstract sense (Putin against the West) the war is about attrition. But in the traditional narrow sense of war, attrition warfare is seldom desirable.
