@KartiPC To claim that increasing MPs is "ineffective" is to argue that a single person can effectively represent 25 lakhs people. Historically, no healthy democracy has ever successfully functioned with such a massive ratio.

An 850-member Parliament will be even more ineffective than the current 543-member House. MPs are legislators, not administrative executives. Simply adding more of them does not—and cannot—improve constituency administration, because MPs are not the administrative heads of their constituencies.

@sumanthraman What do you think is the problem? Emotional responses do not take one very far. The per capita MP is the highest in the country and we are not able to fix accountability from them. Lesser per capita would help there. Ideally we need an MP for every 10 Lakh citizens

Quite apart from the unjust manner in which delimitation is planned, the thought of another 300 freeloaders living off the taxpayer is quite disgusting. Does anyone seriously believe India's problems are because we have too few MPs? #Delimitation

Absolute bunkum. The constitutional amendments proposed do not reference the 2011 census, but ANY census that Parliament may decide. Nothing prevents this Parliament from using the 2027 census which will be available before the 2029 elections. Every question of delimitation will be left to a delimitation commission without constitutional protection or guidance. It will be headed by a retired Supreme Court judge who may be trusted to remain as fair in the commission as in the previous avatar in court. Without a full road map, jumping into constitutional amendments that would distort power within the federation, disproportionately empower the populous states at the expense of the disciplined states, will be casting an unfair and iniquitous burden on the latter. An imperfect union can survive but an unjust union won't.
katibettu Sudhindra/ ಕಾಟಿಬೆಟ್ಟು ಸುಧೀಂದ್ರ@skatibettu

There’s massive confusion on Delimitation , mostly manufactured, partly misunderstood. Let’s set the facts straight 👇 GOI has NOT said seats will be redistributed purely on population basis. The reference is 2011 Census, but that does NOT automatically mean “North gains, South loses.” The idea being discussed = increase total seats (~50%), not aggressively cut or shift existing ones. 👉 In simple terms: Expand the pie, don’t reshuffle it brutally. So why the panic? Because people are mixing 3 different things: Census data 📊 Population-based allocation ⚖️ Seat expansion ➕ These are NOT the same. Also remember,Delimitation has been frozen for decades to ensure states controlling population are not punished. Now suddenly every discussion is being spun as: “South will lose power” That’s not what has been officially stated. Reality check: ✔ No final formula notified ✔ No official redistribution model released ✔ Only broad direction discussed But social media is already running full political narratives. Bottom line: Until a clear framework is out, everything else is speculation, fear mongering, or agenda driven noise. Let policy come first. Debate later.

Narendra Modi is 2 years older than Stalin. But look at the vibrancy in Modi's movements which is completely absent in that of Stalin. Also Stalin does not interact with common people. The max he does is wave intermittently when he is surrounded by guards.

A roadshow after the roadshow! Making today’s Nagercoil visit even more special was a roadshow after the planned route of the original roadshow. This indicates the strong popularity in favour of the NDA.

AIADMK’s biggest strength is its allies. Their votes are Vijay‑proof. PMK is around 4%, AMMK 2%, and BJP 4%, giving the alliance roughly 10% in its kitty. The lowest ever vote share AIADMK has managed was 19% in the 2019 parliamentary elections, so the bare minimum that AIADMK+ starts with is 29%. In Assembly polls, the lowest vote share AIADMK recorded was 31.4% in the 2001 elections. Assuming it dips to 25% due to TVK, the AIADMK combine could be at 35% currently. If it captures some share of the anti‑incumbency, the AIADMK alliance could end up between 35% and 40%.

I want to restrict myself to the separation of powers segment in @ptrmadurai's post. He is constitutionally correct that civic functions belong to local bodies. But constitutional text and #TamilNadu's ground reality are two different things entirely. A thread on what the 74th Amendment actually promised & what was delivered. 1/11
Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR)@ptrmadurai

Stop playing the victim card. A few questions: 1) Is maintaining roads the responsibility of the State Government or the Local Body (Madurai Corporation)? I'll make it easy for you, it is the Local Body (Madurai Corporation). 2) When Federalism is a core principle of our party, how can be be two-faced, like many of you "freelance journalists". Just as we condemn the Union interfering in our State Govt, State MLA's & Ministers should NOT interfere in the Local Bosy, unless in exceptional situations. So why am I asked to take responsibility for the performance, or lack thereof, of the Madurai Corporation? 3) Leaving that aside, is P. T. Rajan road - whose condition you bemoan - even in my Constituency? I'll make it easy for you - it is not. So why do you use it's condition to condemn my capabilites or performance? 4) So....you condemn my performance as an MLA or Minister, based on a road not in my Constituency, and whose maintenance is related to the Madurai Corporation, not my role at all. 5) Were you, and are you still not, following the template of wild accusations of the unwitting Candidate in my Constituency, who has no idea of the Constitutional separation of roles and responsibilities? (Those seeing this post, please check this person's timeline). 6) Do you know that steps I took as FM (6th State Finance Commission related, among others) have helped Madurai Corporation (indeed all local bodies) double Annual Revenues? Does that it make it more likely that they can improve infrastructure like roads, or not? Of course the answer is yes. Why did you not give me any credit for it? 7) Would it not be an abuse of power to direct the Madurai Corporation to prioritize a road named after my grandfather? 8) Are you in regular contact with the infamous press broker Parthiban Kumar, who is engaged in the aforementioned candidate's media management campaign? Anyway, it is not worth having any further conversation with you...let's go our separate ways...

Dear PTR, As a journalist, I have been on the ground for four days in Madurai Central constituency and I am reflecting on what the people of your constituency are saying. I am not here to endorse any candidate contesting in Madurai Central. If people are satisfied with your work, they will vote for you; if not, they will choose someone else. It is as simple as that. I have no agenda, nor any association or business alignment with the so-called individuals you referred to & I have never even met them. You are, in fact, one of the politicians I have interviewed the most since your entry into Tamil Nadu politics. If I am not mistaken, I was the first journalist to record a visual interview when you decided to contest from Madurai Central in 2016. I have written a lot about you in the past, acknowledging your work, not based on your claims, but on the voices of the people. Now that those voices are not in your favour, your response is to target and attempt to discredit journalists like me. The way you are speaking now is not just irresponsible, it is a direct attempt to intimidate and silence journalists who refuse to fall in line with your narrative. This crosses a clear line and cannot be ignored. As for my next pursuit, yes, it will remain journalism till my very last day. Instead of making baseless attacks, you would do better to focus on your campaign and address the concerns of your own constituency. I will continue to reflect the people’s voice and question the establishment & those in power, without fear or favour, as I always have. @ptrmadurai

Please stop misusing the victim card, Madam. What part of what I said was "abuse, filth, and shameless personal attacks"? Let's start with you: 1) I said you had switched into 3 parties (with profoundly different principles, so you had no principled basis to be in politics). It is either true, or not. If it is not true, please prove so, and I will take it back and apologize unreservedly. 2) I said you asked me a question at a conclave last December that Levying a "Garbage Tax" was the only way to solve Cities' Garbage problems. I answered that the problem was much more complicated and that levying a tax could not fix it. Are you disputing this exchange? My memory is quite good But for the elimination of doubt - since it was over VC, I am sure a recording exists, and we can get a copy. That was ALL I said about you, if I am not mistaken. Please correct me if I am wrong, and I will clarify further. In any event, please explain which of these two statements is abuse, filth, and shameless personal attack.🤔🤔🤔 As for your husband, who levelled all manner of accusations and innuendo against me - including utter incompetence, lack of caring for my constituents, corruption, and many others - for multiple days non-stop, while I chose to avoid descending to his level....and use his paid promotion eco-system to try and trash my reputation all over social media (since you cannot even dream of doing it in the Constituency - where our people already know me too well, and you are rank outsiders with suspect credentials). Well, he is a witless political incompetent who doesn't bother to read, learn, understand, or maintain the norms of decency in political discourse. His "party" leader is a vile caste-ist who has tarnished the name of the Justice Party. Do any of you even contemplate why I have been forced to change the habits of 10 years in electoral politics, to even talk about you? It is because, after 10 years in Public Life, I have finally comes across such a low-grade caste-ist charlatan. He gives me material to create memes to mock him EVERY SINGLE DAY. For example, I know what tune he sang at his community gathering today - and will include it in my speech tomorrow😀. As another, I note he has mentioned the "Smart City" projects during the ADMK Govt with pride in an interview with @PTI_News today - without taking the trouble to know they were the prime example of corrupt, unplanned, ill-conceived projects in the last 10 years - and we are still struggling with the aftermath🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ No matter, he will learn tomorrow.....😄😄😄 Reducing Ignorance is a service to Society. He has sown the wind. He will reap the whirlwind. Welcome to Madurai🙏 Have a great day, and an educational campaign.
KhushbuSundar@khushsundar

When facts corner them and arguments collapse, they don’t respond, they descend. What we are witnessing from the #DMK ecosystem is not debate, but a disgraceful display of abuse, filth, and shameless personal attacks. This is not accidental. This is culture. A culture that normalises disrespect, thrives on intimidation, and repeatedly targets women with the most demeaning language. Every word they use only exposes their true mindset—one that has zero regard for dignity or decency, especially women. Also naming and attacking senior journalists who we have never ever met, yet again proves how DMK continues to threaten and intimidate the fourth pillar of our democracy and curb freedom of expression. Thank you for proving me right, yet again, about #DMK. Walking away from that toxicity was not just a choice, it was a necessity. And let this be a reminder : degrees and titles mean nothing when basic values are absent. Education without character is hollow. @SundarCOffl and I will never sink to that level. We stand on the strength of our upbringing, the values instilled in us, and the dignity we refuse to compromise. I won’t waste another word. Let them keep speaking, the more they do, the more they prove who they are.
