Heading to the grocery store… aka preparing to be financially violated after a full contact sport, where I will fight for parking, still get wrecked despite coupons, and somehow I’ll always end up spending $250 on “just a few things” Luckily I’m a grocery store combat veteran and I’m trained for this I’M GOIN IN 🪖 🛒 “Wolverines!”

@michaelj7195 I'm Lutheran. A man pretending to be a woman was assigned to be a pastor at my church. I left. Completely. Never went back.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but if you attend a church where the “pastor” tells you that Jesus was wrong and needed to be corrected, get out. Now. Not tomorrow.

I agree that not all pastors are called to be apologists and professors, but the problem is not pastors failing to read Chemnitz “for five hours a day”, the problem is that many pastors fail to read Chemnitz—or our dogmatic tradition in general—AT ALL after seminary. And by “read” I don’t mean an occasional cross reference during sermon prep or the reusing of popular quotes, but a regular and sustained engagement with the saints and doctors of our Church.
Dr Jordan B. Cooper@DrJordanBCooper

I have this conversation with people constantly when they are disappointed that their pastor doesn't read Chemnitz for five hours a day, and can't answer their obscure theological questions. A pastor is to be a theologian to some extent, yes, but that does not mean that the pastor has to be an academic.

@gonefishin1948 Again, don't generalize all Protestants. LCMS (and other) Lutherans believe the real presence and celebrate the Eucharist.

What is one thing that the Hebrews were commanded to do and Catholics and Orthodox still do that is missing from every Protestant service?

“It’s not about religion; it’s about a relationship!” This is a popular and beloved phrase you’ll hear from many Christians. I loathe it. Huh? “Skeletor, it means that you need a relationship with Jesus, not all that phony religion stuff.” “How do you establish a relationship with Jesus?” “Prayer, fasting, reading the Bible, holy music, service work, sharing the gospel, devotions, worship with others, and growing in faith.” “That’s literally religion.” Stunned silence. Ok, ok, before you swamp me in the replies: I get it. People mean that you can’t “fake” religion and refuse to live Christ. Yes, I agree. Many wolves live to deceive and harm people. But when Christians say we condemn “religion”, we are hating the very vehicle that brings us to Christ. Sure, we can condemn FALSE displays of religion. “But Skeletor, Jesus was against the religious leaders of His day!” Yes He was. Because they improperly interpreted and practiced it. Religion itself wasn’t bad; Jesus would have hated the temple and condemned Judaic practices otherwise. Like Jeremiah before Him, whom He quoted while driving out money changers, it was the perverse and cruel practice of the faith Jesus condemned. Let me ask you a question: if I played “Let it Be” on a xylophone and missed every 4th note, would you be angry at Paul McCartney or me? Why is it that when we meet heretics and false shepherds, we blame Christianity for their sin instead of them? We can certainly debate proper religious practice, but we are fools to think that religion itself is bad. In doing so, we condemn all the saints who came before us and the theology that inspires us. And we make it acceptable for unbelievers to mock it as well. Why should they respect religion if we won’t?

@chefsevenn So, question. If you roast all that in a pan how do you get that brown seared texture on the meat? Why doesn't the liquid turn the meat all flavorless and gray like it was boiled or steamed?

FYI: I had two thawed tilapia fillets in the fridge today and I wanted to make a glaze for them. I took this photo of my available sauces and asked Grok to suggest a recipe. I more or less followed these proportions and the glaze turned out pretty tasty! x.com/i/grok/share/c…

Bro, when I was Muslim, I used to think I was so holy by washing my feet before prayer. Islam said, clean yourself before you can stand before God. You do the work. Miss a spot? Do it again. Get dirty? Start over. Scrubbing your record, hoping maybe you’re worthy. Then I met Jesus. John 13. The Son of God, robe off, towel in hand, kneeling down to wash His disciples’ feet… right before the cross. In Wudu, I was at the sink trying to prove I was clean enough for God. In Jesus, God is on His knees saying, “Let me make you clean.” Do you understand how wild that is? This isn’t a servant trying to impress the king. This is the King becoming the servant, stepping into the mess, the dirt, the shame, and taking it all to the cross. That’s the difference. Religion says: fix yourself so God will have you. Jesus says: I’ll fix you so you can have me. One is earning. One is receiving. One ends in exhaustion. One ends in freedom. I used to wash my feet before I prayed. Now the One I pray to has already made me clean. Saturday 1pm: I have this Muslim auntie, and she’s really devout. Not just culturally, personally. She has a long history of answered prayers. Real things she asked for, and they happened. I used to wrestle with that. How do I say Jesus is the only way when her prayer life feels so real—like it saved her from mental hell? If you try to argue with that, you will lose. Because to her, it’s not a theory. It’s history. And here’s what most people miss: You can’t tear down someone’s belief system and leave them homeless. You have to show them the home in Christ. A lot of apologetics today just demolish. Win the argument, lose the soul. But here’s the truth: Those answered prayers… a lot of them were Jesus. The character of Jesus. The mercy of Jesus. The Holy Spirit moves based on heart posture, not perfect wording. A sincere heart still matters to a Father who is chasing His kids. That doesn’t make Islam true. It shows how merciful Jesus is. So yes, expose the cracks. But build Christ louder. Preach the person, not just the proof. Because my auntie doesn’t need another argument. She needs a revelation. And Jesus will meet her, even in the middle of praying to someone else. When I prayed to Allah, Jesus was the one who answered me. And I knew it, because I knew His Word, His story, His character.

We have all overheard someone talking trash behind our backs. Or, at the least, had others report what so-and-so said about us. On those occasions, here is some wise counsel from Ecclesiastes, “Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others” (7:21). Now I can hear what you are thinking, “Yeah, well, those wise words sound great, but they are hard to live by.” That is true. Sharp words always sting, and sometimes hurt us deeply. I’ve experienced it. So have you. I fear some of us are still bleeding from razor-sharp words spoken years or decades ago. But here is what I remind myself of. First, as Spurgeon once said: “If any man thinks ill of you, do not be angry with him, because you are worse than he thinks you to be.” That always makes me smile a knowing smile. Oh, what horrors people would say if they *really* knew me! Second, if everyone always spoke well of you and showered you with praise, what opportunity would you have to forgive them and cultivate humility? Third, I remember that my mouth has spewed forth the sewage of slander, too. Snarky comments. Judgmental rants. I have cursed others. As Ecclesiastes 7:20 tells us: “Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” I confess with Isaiah, “Woe is me! For I am a man of unclean lips!” (6:5). So you just heard someone speak ill of you? Here is an opportunity for you to cultivate humility, to repent, to forgive. Above all, a chance for you to remember that, as the seraph touched the unclean lips of Isaiah with a coal from the altar to atone for him, so your lips have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, poured out on the cross, given to you in the Lord’s Supper, and applied to you every time the Gospel is preached.

Muslim: Your Bible is corrupted. Me: Okay… and? Muslim: It’s altered and full of contradictions. Me: Alright, noted. Muslim: Jesus didn’t write the Gospels. Me: True. Muslim: The Gospel writers are anonymous, so it’s unreliable. Me: Exactly why I don’t see how “Muhammad is mentioned in a corrupted Bible” so the Quran is wrong for saying he was mentioned. Muslim: He is in the Bible! How can you say the Quran is wrong? Me: Oh okay… where exactly? Muslim: Deuteronomy 18:18, Isaiah 42, John 17, Song of Solomon. Me: Interesting. So is the Bible still corrupted or not? Muslim: Well… not all of it is corrupted. Me: So it’s corrupted… but also trustworthy… depending on the argument? Muslim: We only accept the parts that agree with the Quran. Me: So a corrupted book becomes reliable… when it agrees with your conclusion? Muslim: It’s not completely corrupted, just partially. Me: So… half-trust it when convenient, half-discard it when inconvenient? Muslim: The Quran is the final preserved truth. Me: Got it. You said Isaiah 42 is about Muhammed right? Muslim: Yes, Isaiah 42 is about Muhammad. The prophecy points to a prophet arising in Arabia. Me: Okay, let’s read it: “Behold My Servant… I have put My Spirit upon Him…” So does Allah have a spirit? Muslim: No, Allah doesn’t have a spirit but it means Jibril. Me: But it literally says “My Spirit” and “put upon Him.” Muslim: You’re misinterpreting it, it doesn’t mean that exactly. Me: So the text says one thing… but it means another thing when needed? Muslim: That’s not what it means. Me: So what does it means? Muslim: To you is your religion, and to me is mine, there is no compulsion in religion. Me: uhm😅

Clear sins do not need to be debated. They do not need focus groups. They do not need to be sent to conventions with overtures for votes. They simply need to be rejected. The reason why… some things are not fitting for Christian discussion to begin with. They belong to the kingdom of darkness. They belong to sin and not to Christ. So, what does this mean? It means there are certain sins and corrupt ideas that are so contrary to Christianity that entertaining them as legitimate possibilities is foolish. For example, same-sex marriage is not marriage. It is a myth. For the Christian, it does not exist. There is nothing to debate about same-sex marriage; Scripture clearly condemns it as sin. Abortion is not compassion. It is the taking of a human life. There is nothing to debate as well. The same is true for important teachings of the faith. Salvation does not depend on human works, merit, or decision but Christ alone. We do not need a voters’ meeting or synodical overture to settle this. The pastoral office is not a platform for social experiments – we will not transgender the office of pastor with the ordination of women or justify it in the name of equality – full stop. Baptized Saints, Christians do not dabble with intellectual curiosity about darkness. Our posture toward sin is intentionally closed. Once something is clearly condemned by God, it does not become a matter for endless speculation, conversation, or debate. podbean.com/ew/pb-twiu9-1a…

The Obama Axelrod Pope Leo backlash continues & I love it. Their miscalculation of planned division is one for the history books The world is now calling into question who the Pope is, why he was selected and why is a communist representing God's people? These questions are from Catholics too which makes this more of a miraculous blessing. The God of the universe revealing himself through these discussions is an answer to prayer for millions. Critical thinking = good Blind Allegiance = bad
