Modern “AI” is prediction using a statistical model based on a huge dataset of preexisting human work. This, by definition, considers ~mean quality output as successful output. That isn’t a bad thing, nor is it useless, but that’s what it is.
Software has sucked for a long time. A small number of people really cared to make it great. They are statistical outliers.

Vibecoding is when you let LLMs generate code and you accept it as long as the end result appears to be working. You don't even review the code, you don't care.
When you rigorously ensure that generated code is up to a standard, it's not vibecoding anymore. It's programming.

It’s why Americans dominate design, but can’t ever scale their inventions

I do wish people understood maths better, since tech folk clearly don't.
You can never get anything exceptional from a machine designed to (at best) distill and regurgitate the average.
Whether that's predicting weather or writing reports.

SPOILER ALERT: It’s the same reason AI writing sucks. AI is pattern-based, which means it disregards outliers then forecasts (or writes) based on what’s statistically probable given the average pattern. You can’t predict extreme weather based on average patterns just as you can’t write amazing prose using something that merely predicts the next average word. And we’re losing jobs to this. What a wicked world.
