`The good citizen will demand liberty for himself, and as a matter of pride he will see to it that others receive liberty which he thus claims as his own. Probably the best test of true love of liberty in any country is the way how in which minorities are treated` - R. Theodore

Companies like Crown Beverages have seen demand collapse in some sectors of Greater Kampala i've been told. Access to customers was often pavement based. The rolex guy and the small shop worked in tandem. I heard that distribution dropped 40% in some areas @DailyMonitor

‘Dead’ vendor economy: When streets go quiet Recent data shows that Uganda’s informal economy contributes about 54.5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs nearly 88 to 92 percent of the workforce, making it the backbone of both production and livelihoods bit.ly/3Ryw5lQ #MonitorUpdates

Recent UK Prime Ministers rarely leave their parties unscathed: Theresa May fell over Brexit, Boris Johnson over Partygate, Liz Truss over the mini-budget chaos, and Rishi Sunak led the Conservatives to a crushing electoral defeat. Now even Starmer is facing internal pressure.
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 WATCH: Keir Starmer says Nigel Farage is not "just a grifter, he is a chancer" "He said Brexit would make us richer... wrong... he said it would reduce migration... wrong... he took Britain for a ride, and unlike the Tories, he just fled the scene"

S. Sudan owes EAC membership dues for years, yet we keep talking about regional integration as though all member states are operating from the same level of institutional stability. How is the EAC supposed to function efficiently when some states can barely function internally?
Aine@timothy_aine

S.Sudan remains one of the examples of state failure in EA. A transitional constitution years later, no elected parliament, endless sackings of officials, & citizens trapped under the recycled performance of a liberation mov’t that never evolved into a functioning gov’t.

To the young people of #Rwanda, being young is not enough. You cannot afford to waste any opportunity. Do not let the fear of failure or taking risks stand in the way of who you can be. Claim your rightful place in the world, no one will hand it to you

Last Wednesday (29th April), the #CEPAResearchAndPolicyFellows engaged in a rich module on “𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭, 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 & 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲” facilitated by Mr. Munyangabo Joseph at our offices. The session unpacked how states emerge, operate, and grounding discussions in history, institutions, and real-world political dynamics. Drawing from core ideas like the state’s monopoly over force and the social contract, the conversation pushed fellows to rethink what power really looks like in practice. #CRPF #SUPA #CEPAProgramming

Hon @EllyKaruhanga delivers some of the best eulogies, in text and speech As a person with a very realistic view on death, I always read obituaries. My perspective is that in death, we find rest One would think uncle Elly is part of the Society of Professional Obituary Writers.

For the past few months, I’ve been noticing something unusual on K’la roads. There are fewer DMCs in sight. Not sure if it’s policy, pressure, or just coincidence, but the difference is hard to miss. Curious to know what changed 🤔
