I *love* The Last Crusade and the original Raiders film. There are some Spielberg alien films that I enjoy quite a bit. I did not enjoy Spielberg (and Lucas?) turning Indiana Jones into an alien film.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL was released 18 years ago today. Harrison Ford had kept himself in such good shape that his costume measurements reportedly hadn’t changed since Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, filmed 19 years earlier.

To be frank, I don’t understand the Bericoto promotion. Ramos’ injury was a perfect opportunity to play both Schmitt and Eldridge everyday. Where does Bericoto fit into the equation?

Always funny seeing what Japan thinks is American food and then doing their own take that attempts to be just as excessively decadent. I’ll still probably eat them even though none of these have much to do with America lol

@wolfman5469 @gggiants @kirkreports Not thrown in the towel on the season - yet. But a 'surreptitious' rebuild in that: a) After the Devers trade, exclusively traded for prospects last year (Rodriguez, Gilbert, Harber) b) hired Vitello c) signed mainly 1-yr FAs c) traded Bailey for a fringe prospect and draft pick

@gggiants @kirkreports Yes. I hope they start drafting and/or trading for some starting pitchers. Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, and Madison Bumgarner all came from the draft.

@a45511278 @ByMMonreal Keeping Ray is only worth it if they are in playoff contentious. Otherwise, he's on an expiring contract. One would assume he'll turn it around sooner or later.

@ByMMonreal They’re not getting anyone good for Bader and Mahle. Those two would be salary dumps. They’re not trading Ray after two bad starts . There’s no value in that

I try to stay professional/positive, but we're almost 50 games in and the #SFGiants are 9 games below .500. Sell Arraez at his peak, see what you can get for Ray/Bader/Mahle and let the kids play. My opinion could be swayed after a strong week, but looking like a lost season.

When I say that I love reading Japanese literature (in English) I really do mean reading all sorts of JP lit and I completely forgot that there are people out there whose sole interaction with this country’s books are light novels/manga and those cozy cat books…

@ChrisGloninger I just don't understand why this movement doesn't attempt to fund a fully functional public transport system in the U.S.

The climate science was "serious" before Greta Thunberg was born. James Hansen testified to the US Senate on anthropogenic warming in 1988. Every National Academy of Science on Earth, the Pentagon, the reinsurance industry, and central banks now treat it as load-bearing risk in their planning documents. The IPCC reports are written by hundreds of credentialed scientists across dozens of countries, none of whom are teenagers. Reducing all of that to "the movement needed a teenage messiah" is a rhetorical sleight that lets the writer skip past the actual messengers, who are 99% of working climate scientists, the US military, and the people pricing your homeowners insurance. Greta did not author the evidence. She read it and asked the adults in charge why they were not acting on it. That the question landed was a feature of the question, not a flaw of the questioner.
TRIGGERnometry@triggerpod

Why did a global movement need a teenager as its messiah? Ex-climate activist @LLBiggers reflects on the moment she realised something felt deeply off about the climate movement, from apocalyptic messaging in schools to turning Greta Thunberg into a global symbol before she was old enough to pay an energy bill. “This wasn’t seriousness. It was ideology.”

@OliverJia1014 We've got our old one still going. It's big enough for the XBox, TV, and DVDs, mainly watched by our 13歳 and 5歳. I think the TV will outlast the 冷蔵庫 - which is *filled* after every Costco trip we do. What do you think is a reasonable price for a TV?

Bit of sad irony in home media having basically achieved near-parity with what you can get at a cinema via 4K UHD and televisions being cheaper than ever, but a lot of people just don’t want TVs. Most watch stuff on phones and tablets now. Convenience has won out over quality.

@humantransit @BrandSanderson is one guy who gets some negative reviews from me because I've *loved* some of his books, but for some of his books it seems like the editors, proofreaders, and he himself did not care enough to review his works fully the way they deserved.

Don't bother with negative book reviews. Don't write them. Don't read them. I never review books I dislike, unless the book has a strong redeeming feature that makes it still worth people's time. Just ignore bad books and celebrate good ones!
Orson Scott Card@orsonscottcard

On criticism: Richard Geis taught me years ago that the harshest review is silence. A scathing review merely makes the title of your work sound familiar to a book buyer browsing. And in my experience, only a positive review is worth writing, because it may introduce readers to good books they might not otherwise have found.
