This family wanted one of those expensive large French door refrigerators. When they priced them, they were coming back with prices between $8000 and $12000 for a Sub-Zero. The man didn’t want to disappoint his wife so he came up with an idea to get the space they needed without spending thousands of dollars on a high end fridge. His solution was to buy two identical fridges and mount the doors in a French style configuration. Other people were critiquing them saying it looks tacky and cheap. @ThrdView @CalltoActivism I believe taxes are levied against the owner of record. No matter who it is, like an individual or a LLC, if not paid then it would be liable to confiscation by the government.

This is analogous to what I've suggested regarding taxation. I don't really see higher taxes as something to celebrate, but if you simply want to extract more money with minimal negative impact, this may work. It basically doubles the property tax from about 0.8% to 1.6% for these properties. That's a lot, but still less than expected property price growth in this segment. I.e. these properties will remain attractive. The obvious caveat is that $500M is a rounding error in the NYC budget ($127B for 2027). It's basically just sending these rich folks another bill to pay. Also, how does it treat properties with opaque ownership structure? Can you dodge the surtax by simply buying the property through an LLC and putting somebody with NY domicile as one of the managers?

@_LukeCSkywalker @Noahpinion Electric power (pre-solar) is generated some distance away at a power plant and delivered via the electrical grid. They just use solar instead of coal or gas plants and rely on the same grid.

@Noahpinion Solar is awesome if you have the land. Works great in rural areas -- put panels on your single family home and it works ~60 or 70% of the time (depending where you are). Not so great for cities, industry, commercial, etc. You can't power a highrise with rooftop solar.
