one thing that's been happening is that very focused & skilled people think that AI isn't a big deal because it personally doesn't make them faster at getting things done. but really; what is has done is it's risen the floor on what *can* be done by *anyone*. it's like. a flood

Intelligence isolates. A father with intelligence has this wish that he’d be able to bond with their child eventually at the same intellect levels. “Hope is returning to his eyes” tells you he had to wait one generation, but also daughter is now realizing her and siblings could never access this side of him.

@cljack Why is it heartbreaking? Who would be heartbroken by a genius child and a happy father?

My dad, a retired Bell Labs physicist, has been quietly resigned for many years to the fact that neither of his kids are smart enough to understand and appreciate math & physics the way he does. But now it's becoming clear my 11yo is terrifyingly smart, she engages with him on mathematical puzzles in a way I've simply never been capable of, and hope is returning to his eyes. It's both wonderful and heartbreaking for me to witness

@GoshawkTrades Is it possible to be too fast? Like can’t the models be so fast that they commit to something then end up being egregiously wrong because they didn’t wait long enough to see the thing they anticipated actually begins to play out

Jane Street's head of technology just explained the full spectrum of how fast their trading decisions are made. the fastest systems turn around a packet in under 100 nanoseconds. at that speed, if you attached an oscilloscope to the wire going in and the wire going out, you'd see the response start to leave before the incoming packet has finished arriving. at that speed, you can't use a CPU. you can't use any programming language. you're on an FPGA direct wired to the network. and the decisions you're making are incredibly simple. because you literally can't compute anything complex in that time. but here's the part most people miss: that's just one end of the spectrum. Jane Street runs an ensemble of systems operating at every timescale simultaneously. some decisions happen in nanoseconds. some in microseconds. some in milliseconds. some take hours or a full day. "the right way to build an optimal trading strategy is an ensemble approach. for some decisions you're making very simple decisions very quickly. for others, you're operating at the scale of microseconds, milliseconds. and in some cases, if you can get that decision turned around in an hour, that's totally fine." the faster you need to respond, the simpler the decision has to be. the slower you can afford to go, the smarter the model can be. this is why "Jane Street is just a speed game" is wrong. speed is one dimension. intelligence is the other.

AOC: You can't create a billion dollars of value. Glazer: That's right. AOC: You just can't create that much value. Glazer: That's exactly correct. AOC: You can invent something millions of people use. You can coordinate capital, engineers, factories, logistics, software, suppliers, customers, and risk. You can build a product that changes how people live for the better. Glazer: Yup. AOC: You can make things cheaper, faster, more available, or more useful than they were before. Glazer: Yup. AOC: You can rearrange an entire market so that billions of people voluntarily choose what you made over what existed before. Glazer: Yup. AOC: But you can't create value, right? Glazer: That's right. AOC: And so you have to create a myth that, since people keep buying the thing, since investors keep funding it, since workers keep joining it, since competitors keep copying it, since society keeps using it, somehow value was created.
Breitbart News@BreitbartNews

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: You can't earn a billion dollars. Ilana Glazer: That's right. AOC: You just can't earn that. Glazer: That's exactly correct. AOC: You can get market power. You can break rules. You can do all sorts of things. You can abuse labor laws. Glazer: Yup. AOC: You can pay people less than what they're worth. Glazer: Yup. AOC: But you can't earn that, right? Glazer: That's right. AOC: And so you have to create a myth that -- since you didn't earn that, you have to create a myth of earning it.

I am excited to announce that Arcarae has $2.5M in funding and I am finally hiring. Arcarae’s mission is to help humanity remember and unlock the power each individual holds within themself so they can bring into reality their unique, authentic expression of self without fear or compromise. Our research endeavors are designed to support this mission via computationally modeling higher-order cognition and subjective internal world models. Specifically, we are building the computational models of the other side of intelligence that everyone has neglected:  Intuition. Our evolution is anchored in our current product, an immersive universe for self-discovery, and MIRROR, our AI research implementing cognitive inner-monologue in LLMs, reducing sycophancy by 21% on avg. & up to 156% vs. SOTA models. This marks Arcarae’s transition from a solo endeavor into a full-fledged consumer product and AI research company. I am seeking three very specific people to join me on this mission and help scale Arcarae to its next phase. I am hiring one researcher, one marketer, and one engineer as my founding team. These are far from normal roles; the application and hiring process even reflects this. If you think you are one of these three people, please apply right away. There is much to be done <3 And with that being said, Welcome to the era of Arcarae. And as always, I am excited for what’s to come <3

He attacked it with a statistical model of all of humanities knowledge. The answer was out there but in different locations. Doesn’t mean ChatGPT was intelligent. The kid did this using a tool. ChatGPT would have never have done this on its own. That’s what people don’t realize about ai. It’s an encyclopedia of humanities corpus, and questions are waiting to be asked. But the ai will never ask them. Only we can.

Imagine every pixel on your screen, streamed live directly from a model. No HTML, no layout engine, no code. Just exactly what you want to see. @eddiejiao_obj, @drewocarr and I built a prototype to see how this could actually work, and set out to make it real. We're calling it Flipbook. (1/5)

After taking dozens of apps to #1 in the App Store, our team went back and analyzed over 100,000 social media posts to trace back what worked We found 34 hooks that brought in 100's of millions of views and more than 300 others proven to go viral.. and turned all of that into templates you can steal for free If you run a consumer app and want: - more installs - higher App Store rankings - content that lands with Gen Z Comment “HOOKS” and I’ll DM you the file.
