Before Bitcoin, the best cryptographic minds alive agreed: The internet needed a native currency. David Chaum tried. Nick Szabo tried. Wei Dai tried. Hal Finney tried. Each iteration got closer. Each one taught Satoshi what didn’t work. Bitcoin isn’t a speculative asset someone invented. It’s the answer to a 30-year research problem - finally solved.

The internet has a protocol for email. A protocol for data transfer. A protocol for encryption. It never had a protocol for value transfer. That wasn’t for lack of trying. The cypherpunks spent 30 years on it. Bitcoin is the protocol they were building toward.

The internet was built without a native currency. That wasn’t an oversight. Dozens of the world’s best cryptographers spent 30 years trying to fix it. DigiCash. b-money. Bit Gold. Hashcash. RPOW. Hundreds of research papers. Millions in R&D. All failed. Bitcoin didn’t come out of nowhere. It was the answer to the hardest open problem in applied cryptography.

“Intrinsic value” doesn’t exist. It’s not a property like mass or temperature. Gold isn’t valuable because it’s shiny. Oil isn’t valuable because it burns. Dollars aren’t valuable because a government printed them. All value is emergent from scarcity, utility, and human coordination. Bitcoin skeptics invoking “intrinsic value” don’t understand value. Full stop.

BEWARE TRAVELING TO 🇭🇰 HONG KONG WITH BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS Hong Kong has updated enforcement rules under the National Security Law as of March 23, 2026. Refusing to provide passwords or decryption assistance to police is now a criminal offense, covering ALL personal devices including phones, laptops, and likely hardware wallets. The rule applies to everyone in Hong Kong, including US citizens, even if only transiting through the airport. Authorities also have expanded powers to seize and retain devices they claim are linked to national security investigations. Travelers are advised to understand the risks before entering or transiting through the region.
