Happy Birthday Tom!!! Thank you so much for your generous support every year ❤️
We're so excited to, with your leadership support, give high schoolers an opportunity to build their first ever PCB.

🎂 Today's my 44th birthday, so it's time for my traditional reverse birthday present! 🎂 I've been having tons of fun doing an electronics side project, so I thought it would be cool to give the same opportunity to 440 @HackClub students via OnBoard: github.com/hackclub/onboa…

@siliconcompiler @OpenROAD_EDA @mithro @proppy @matthewvenn The scripts that drive openroad are tcl with the params coming from json.

We created an SC based Makefily.py that emulates the Makefile behavior in @OpenROAD_EDA, giving us access to OpenRoad's awesome suite of tests and benchmarks.😎 github.com/The-OpenROAD-P… @mithro @tomspyrou @proppy @matthewvenn

Had a hard time tracking all the great open source HW projects out there, so I made another list. I am sure I missed some, PRs needed to complete list!! github.com/aolofsson/awes…

Super excited about the work @proppy is doing to put ASIC + FPGA tools into Jupyter notebooks!
You can then use them for free on @Google's Colab without having to install tools locally.

This is some very cool work from @td_ene about understanding (and then hopefully improving) adder performance in the open source EDA tooling like @YosysHQ, @OpenROAD_EDA and others!

A great end to the week. When taping out the #Microwatt processor for an upcoming #sky130 shuttle, we hit some test case failures. Managed to isolate it to a synthesis issue in #GHDL. Submit a bug report, and Tristan Gingold commits a fix within hours.

Thanks to @efabless, @Google and @SkyWaterFoundry for the chance to tape out #Microwatt, a 64 bit @OpenPOWERorg CPU, on #sky130_mpw1. Thanks also to the @OpenROAD_EDA and Openlane projects for the tools to make this possible. Open Hardware built with Open Source tools.

#OpenFASOC have recently released #cryogenic test structures that we hope @NIST will be using on #sky130_mpw -5.
The generator is using all @SkyWaterFoundry 130nm open-source standard cells flavors and uses @OpenROAD_EDA tooling capabilities!

@OlofKindgren For looking at a layout you may find it easier to run openroad -gui and load the lef/def in. You can see the netlist objects and def objects like tracks and blockages more easily.

Open source silicon creation projects were rocking those growth curves in 2020 and 2021. It shows the massive demand here.
I can't wait to see what happens in 2022!

English

@OlofKindgren @SkyWaterFoundry Yes, opensta can load a gzipd version if that helps. Normally companies have one copy on the network that is readable by all designers to avoid multiple copies so the size becomes irrelevant when amortized across users. In our distributed open source model that doesn't help much.
English

@tomspyrou @SkyWaterFoundry That's definitely worth considering. Not sure why it's not done already today to be honest. That whole tree of repos is a slightly esoteric setup, TBH. One downside is that it will vastly increase the repo size though. Those liberty files are incredibly chatty.
English

Anyone good at speeding up Python code? Turns out that building liberty models for the @SkyWaterFoundry PDK takes about 30 minutes thanks to spending all that time running this ~1kLOC Python script github.com/google/skywate… Did an initial profiling here gist.github.com/olofk/5393aa66…
