This is important. He's almost entirely wrong, but not quite. Cortisol release is intensity-dependent. While work >~60% VO2max increases cortisol, work <50-60% VO2max decreases cortisol below baseline levels. That is, it's a de-stressor that stabilizes your metabolism. In other words, the metabolic health of the athlete has a lot to do with how they train & how much of it is at moderate-high intensities.

@Alan_Couzens ok got it....so to keep VO2 max < 60% for my large volume workouts, keep my effort at < 70% of maximum HR...or bc that gap narrows keep it around 65% of max HR to be safe...thank you!

@toothsleuth33 On average ~10% gap in the lower ranges, so 50% VO2max is typically ~=60% max HR. These gaps narrow as we get closer to (and beyond) the second threshold.

Juan Cole was convicted of the murder of Carlos McGruder, which took place in November 2021 in a Holiday Inn parking lot. Cole was allegedly acting as a pimp when one of the women working for him was allegedly assaulted and robbed. Upon hearing of the incident, Cole ran into the parking lot to find McGruder, thinking he was the one who assaulted her. He fled and was on the run for years before being apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in Oklahoma in August 2025. A month before the child’s death, Varley told a social worker he wasn’t “bonding” with the child and was having “dark thoughts” about him, including thoughts of drowning or suffocating the baby. I have read some truly evil things in my life... Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, comes close to what I read in the search warrant for Joshua Gilliam and Ronald Lynch. These two married men have 5 BOYS, in North Carolina. They have been arrested for r*pe, child p*rnography, and grooming. The victims are a 5-year-old and a 15 year-old... but police say many many more charges are coming. ...but it gets worse. Last year... in May of 2025, the NC State Bureau of Investigation sent Harnett County a cybertip about Ronald Wayne Lynch, possible child se*ual abuse material. NO CHARGES WERE FILED. In MAY 2026... 1 FULL YEAR LATER ...a second cybertip arrived. This time naming his husband, Joshua Lee Gilliam, in the r*pe of a five-year-old and the grooming of a fifteen-year-old. THEN charges were filed. For both men. Please read that again... a year went by. A year in which children remained in that household. What happened to those children in that year? The details of this case are so sickening and so horrifying I have had to walk away from my laptop. Truly the most vile things I've ever read in my life, bar none. From personal experience, the two “aboriginal” students admitted to my dental class were both 1/4 aboriginal and thus qualified. And one of them actually had blond hair and blue eyes! She just met the minimum requirements and was admitted bc of her status.

If you can’t understand how an applicant with a 507 MCAT who came from poverty, first to go to college, working while in school, and has no financial help is much more impressive and implies far better work ethic and perseverance than someone with a 512, rich parents, MCAT prep course, and never had a job…you’re a fucking dumbass.
