Kanopolis Lake, KS EF4 #Tornado – April 14, 2012! On this day in 2012, the strongest of 83 tornadoes documented across the U.S. tracked more than 50 miles through central Kansas. The tornado moved from Rice County through Ellsworth, McPherson, and Saline Counties, reaching EF4 intensity near Kanopolis Lake. Despite the strength, there were no injuries or fatalities reported. A home in Ellsworth County was swept from its foundation, with debris carried into nearby tree lines. Trees were snapped, shredded, and in some cases debarked. The tornado also scoured a gravel road several inches deep and flipped vehicles along its path. Damage farther east was more sporadic, with impacts to trees and a farmhouse near Smolan before the tornado dissipated. tornadotalk.com/kanopolis-lake… #kswx #OTD #tornadohistory

We’re starting to get a look at tornado damage in Ottawa. These pictures are from Main Street, the Knights Inn Motel and 17th Street. They were taken by Brett Maverick. City leaders say most of the city is without power, but no injuries have been reported. @kmbc
