Temperatures will be on the rise through mid-week which will bring head index values into the triple digits each day for many areas. Make sure to drink plenty of water and limit your time outdoors! ##gawx

🚬CANADIAN SMOKE REACHING FLORIDA!🚬 On Monday, smoke from the Canada/Northwest US wildfires is expected to reach #Florida early on Monday, and start spreading southwards across the state. Hazy skies will be possible, but hopefully our air quality will remain okay! #flwx

TROPICAL UPDATE: For Hawaii, the trend has been their friend over the past 24 hours when it comes to #Fausto. Granted by that point it would likely be a tropical storm, but still a positive sign to see fewer overall impacts for the islands.

🌴🌩️Heads up Hawaii! Category 2 Hurricane Fausto is churning in the Eastern Pacific, tracking directly towards Hawaii. The forecast cone currently has all but the Big Island in the path of Fausto, however much can change over the coming days. The current forecast has Fausto approaching around Tuesday as a Tropical Storm. #HIwx

This is what climate change looks like. Firefighters retreat from a fast-moving forest fire in Spain's Madrid region as extreme heat turns forests into tinderboxes. We were warned this was coming. It has arrived.

A furious outbreak of wildfires continues to scorch the Oregon timberland today on satellite imagery. Immense smoke plumes are now blanketing the Pacific Northwest and flowing across the Canadian border as these fast-moving flames chew through hundreds-of-thousands of acres.

Well, this isn't great. Tons of smoke from wildfires in the Northwest will pump across the United States and Canada in the days ahead. In the East, air quality won't be much of an issue, but haze will become noticeable on Sunday and Monday.

Bertha cooled Gulf Water Off
Matt Devitt@MattDevittWX

Tropical Storm #Bertha, thanks to upwelling, has cooled off a large portion of the Gulf shown in blue. Also notice all the blue across the Caribbean too! I do expect the Gulf to likely rebound in the weeks ahead.

Moving forward, we have a strong storm system that will bring multiple days of high impact severe weather. This will start tomorrow & go through Tuesday. After that as we round off July & get into August, we could introduce a pattern that is similar to the one we have had all Summer. That is some sort of stalled out cold front across the South. The boundary for this looks further South compared to the one we've been dealing with the last few days. That means higher rain chances will be further South. This is a pattern that could support homegrown tropical activity. We will watch!

Horrible situation unfolding in the Pacific Northwest tonight as a wildfire outbreak continues to rage. Hundreds of thousands of acres have burned across Washington and Oregon alone. Satellite imagery shows many thick smoke plumes and intense heat signatures. #WAwx #ORwx

When you're told to evacuate, evacuate! The speed of this forest fire in Navas del Rey, near Madrid, Spain is terrifying. It took 8 minutest to reach the camera.

The biggest heat dome on the planet! Sound ⬆️ Starting now, the biggest heat dome on planet Earth will make a home here in the US, from the MS River West! It’s gonna be a brutal week with highs up to 120°+ in spots! Meanwhile in the East, it will be cooler than normal, and stormy in #Florida. #heatwave #heatdome

2026 and 1997 are El Niño twins, both featuring 8°C ocean temperature anomalies beneath the surface of the Pacific. But they're not identical. This year's El Niño is warmer across a wider region, meaning there's more heat in the tank and its impacts won't exactly mirror 1997.

While Fausto came close to major hurricane intensity (90-knots) looks like it may have peaked. Next chance at the Eastern Pacific's first major hurricane is Genevieve (07E) just now forming over very warm water south of Mexico.
