We all know that TVK emerged as the single largest party in the present Assembly with 107 seats — just 10 short of a majority. Along with support from Congress with 5MLAs, and CPM, CPI, IUML and VCK with 2 seats each, the secular front comfortably crossed the halfway mark. Thiru Vijay approached only these five secular parties for support. The support announced by the AMMK MLA was voluntary and not sought by TVK. The reality is that BJP wanted to stop Thiru @TVKVijayHQ from becoming CM. Now even sections within the ADMK are openly speaking about these internal differences. So the claim that Congress and BJP are together is completely misleading. My friend Wilson knows very well that Congress has never allied with BJP. @CMOTamilnadu never asked for BJP’s & ADMK support. Shanmugam himself has strongly opposed any DMK–ADMK understanding. He is now breaking away from the NDA line and fighting his own political battle within the ADMK camp politics. Facts matter. Narratives cannot replace the truth.

Sir, the facts are very clear. TVK had 108 seats on 4th May and was short by 10 to form a secular government. On 5th May, TVK officially wrote to the Congress seeking support. The same day, discussions were held within the Congress leadership. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji consulted and asked the TNCC leadership to take a decision. At 10:30 PM, the PAC meeting was held. 29 members attended and unanimously decided that Congress should support TVK to prevent BJP-backed politics from gaining space in Tamil Nadu. On 6th May, Congress leaders met Thiru Vijay and handed over the letter of support. In the meantime, Kharge ji had also conveyed our stand to Thiru T.R. Balu. So where is the question of indecency? If on 5th May we had sent MLAs to meet the former Chief Minister, what would have changed? Even then, DMK spokespersons accused us of betrayal. The truth is, some leaders never believed power could slip away from them. They thought money could buy everything — ₹1000, ₹2000, even ₹8000 for votes. They stopped respecting the wisdom of ordinary people and assumed everyone had a price tag. The people of Tamil Nadu rejected that arrogance. That verdict was not against one party alone — it was a warning to all political forces, including us. Congress too was humbled, coming down from 17 MLAs to 5. This election was a lesson in humility, respect for democracy, and the power of the people.

So many machinations, connivance and commerce in the air tonight just to stop one man from taking the chair. I am hearing even if they extend support there are movements underway to defeat him on the floor of the house. Despite many voices within the party asking for a different path before the elections, the Congress stood by its commitment and remained with the Secular Progressive Alliance. We fought the election honestly and sincerely. The people, however, have now given a clear mandate for change, and we respect that verdict with humility. Today, TVK has approached the secular forces of Tamil Nadu seeking support to form a secular front, even amidst possible pressure from the BJP to bring them under its influence. In such a situation, it would be a serious mistake for any secular party to refuse support and indirectly help communal forces gain space in Tamil Nadu. If acting in the interest of the state, respecting the people’s mandate, and protecting Tamil Nadu’s secular character is called “backstabbing,” then one must also ask: what should we call desperate attempts to cling to power by going against the people’s verdict and opening the doors for BJP’s influence in the state?

Tamil Nadu voted for change we must accept it. Tamil Nadu again rejected the NDA, along with the surrendered Palaniswami. Hate entry was stopped. Now it is the duty of the secular forces to stop any manipulation of the verdict. Secular forces must come together to protect Tamil Nadu from RSS proxies and from hate politics.
