@Argorak I’d be looking forward to it. From what I gather this achievement of safety qualifying an open source project might not be significant only for Rust, but the open source industry as a whole.

To date we've tackled nine initiatives to bring memory safety to some of the Internet's critical software. What should we take on next?

I still don't know the full details (and frankly, that's part of the problem), but I wanted to explain what happened from my perspective, based on my fractured understanding.

👋I'm the [non-technical, non-Rust, apolitical] human atop @rustconf (I'm not part of the project or Foundation). Before explaining anything, I'll just say, wow, what a fuck up. I am SO sorry about and for all of this; how it happened, and that it happened at all. It isn't okay.

@rust_foundation @CohenArthurDev @Embecosm It really is incredible. They aren't even done with it, and we can already use the Rust language on the Sega Dreamcast, a 90s game console with a SuperH architecture that isn't supported by LLVM. We've been having lots of fun with it, and despite being incomplete, works great!

@BelkheirMahamed @yaelwrites TL:DR - Rust isn't the answer. We already have well established programming languages which delivers the safety guarantees software need without a heavy cognitive load Rust puts on the developer.

@adonespitogo @m_ou_se @rustlang if you don't wanna wait for that, look for current and past issues of this-week-in-rust.org... it has a section where the various projects explicitly request for contributions, which implies they are ready to mentor those new to the project

@adonespitogo @m_ou_se @rustlang do your next side project in the language, in any domain... should help focus things, though may also frustrate if it's a corner that is not (yet) mature

🆕🦀 Yet another version of @rustlang, Rust 1.67.0, has just been released! This one is a relatively small release. So, short release thread: 🧵 1/6

@yeedle @steveklabnik or bring it closer to closure syntax... let foo: |x: i32| -> i32 = { todo!() }

@steveklabnik Interesting! At some point, why even bother having let AND fn? Why not make fn be: let foo: (x: i32) -> i32 = { todo!() }

@mrtngslr alright, I thought you meant other projects announced support specifically for using Rust third-party libraries, because it's the first time I see the approach (with Chromium)

@tshepang_dev There has been a few announcements recently about Rust support: the Linux Kernel accepted patches to enable Rust support and we open sourced the internal Android Rust training just a month ago. It feels like Rust is gaining momentum.

I understand why Rust chose to avoid "blowing the strangeness budget" and so adopted a syntax in a lot of places that resembles Java, C#, and C++, but sometimes it feels like we played a cruel prank on C++ devs who try to switch to Rust.

@seanmonstar how long do you find it reasonable to wait before bumping msrv, given that 2021 edition was released over a year ago

As a #rustlang library maintainer trying to keep an MSRV policy, dependencies that choose to set their edition to 2021 make me sad.
